2022 F1 Thread *SPOILERS*

World Driving Championship.

Who was the biggest help last year for him to attain his first championship?

Perez.

Sergio Perez produced one of the outstanding moments of the 2021 title decider in Abu Dhabi when he took on defending champion Lewis Hamilton before the halfway point, allowing his Red Bull team mate Max Verstappen to catch up to the pair.

And it was that staunch defence, with Perez in the lead for six laps having not yet pitted, which Verstappen said was crucial to his race and title win.

The Mexican, who was without a seat late in 2020 before joining Red Bull as Verstappen’s team mate this year, stalled Hamilton’s progress in an epic duel from Lap 20.

“I think without Checo I wouldn’t be sitting here right now because then they would have had a pit gap with the Safety Car and stuff so definitely Checo was driving incredibly today,” said Verstappen in Sunday evening's press conference in Abu Dhabi.

The champion added that he hoped the partnership with Perez would be a long one, saying: “Of course, when we started working together, it’s difficult to know exactly how it’s going to work out. But... Checo is an amazing human being. Not only just to work with in F1 but a super nice person, a real family man as well, and yes, I really have a lot of good times with him and you can see he really means it, and he means well.

It’s very rare to have a team mate like that and what he showed today, he was a real team player and I really hope we can continue this for a long time,” added Verstappen.

Verstappen has a very very short memory.

He's a jackass.

He's one of those people who appreciate others as long as the relationship benefits flow in his direction, once it is asked to flow in the other direction, no matter how minor, it's no longer a relationship to him, it's an inconvenience.

I've known some people like that, and there is never, ever a balance with them. It's always best to GTFO of any contact with them as soon as possible because things only flow in one direction and you'll be sucked dry.

Completely agree.

Just had a falling out with a friend of 25 years, 11 days after I officated his daughter's wedding in New Orleans no less.

He and especially his wife are very money focused and I think my largesse with his family pissed him off and put him over the edge as he felt he could not keep up.

We have the same net worth I'm just trying to reduce my daughter's inheritance while they are misers. :laughing

He was obsessed with the fact that he had to dole out "so much" for the wedding despite it being half what we spent and the other friend he jettisoned spent on daughters' weddings.

People are odd.

I have a brother like that, we rarely speak, he and his wife put money above all else. This brother got more from my parents for college than any of the rest of us, he constantly called my parents telling them that his finances were dire, but then he magically had a convertible, a hobie cat, a powerful RC, a large python and various other items. Then recently, he told my brother that he couldn't contribute to help get my parents a TV, then at my parents Anniversary was bragging up on their new Porsche cabriole and high performance SUV (BMW X5 M class) and track days.

JFC.

OK, Verstappen isn't nearly THAT bad! :laughing

He's Dutch. He CAN be.

I used to live in Belgium and the Dutch were quite laid back.

Verstappen is still very young and will eventually realize that undermining your team mate is not the greatest strategy to employ.

On a side note....it is official that Schumacher is out and Hulkenburg is in at Haas.

I think this is a good move for the team to have experienced drivers to try and bring the whole team forward with development. Hopefully, Haas will be nearer the sharper end next year.

Once again: Perez's job is to get Verstappen race wins and if Verstappen isn't in position to do so, Perez needs to win himself. That's what's in his contract. Holding up Hammy for Verstappen to pass and win IS his job on that day.

This is professional racing on someone else's budget. Drivers do as they're told and if they win, they get lead driver status.

This brother got more from my parents...more than any of the rest of us...

but then he magically had...a large python

Come on Brett...you coulda just told us directly. We've got empathy for ya!

One thing I've noticed is that if a family has at least 3 kids, in many cases at least one is a bad apple. Sucks, but that seems to be the way it goes, I don't know if it's genetic or something that happened during their childhood.

Also, most siblings seem to be different from each other, it's not often that several have a similar personality.

My oldest sister and I are a lot alike, but middle sister...not so much. Butttt...neither has a "large python".

There’s a long history of teammates not getting along. Doesn’t help that Verstappen is a douchebag.

YEP!!!

Verstappen cemented that he STILL is a dick by shitting all over his teammate, his team principal and also by ramming LH in an overtake that he tried with the clear intention of crashing LH if he didn’t move out of the way.

YES!!!

I agree 100%

BTW- I REALLY enjoyed all of the racing this past weekend. That Sprint Race was EPIC. That track is fantastic. All tracks should be so great. It's not just a stupid Parade Lap, there was actual wheel to wheel racing. An F1 Race is totally on my bucket list.

Las Vegas looks like it will be shit show. I am tempted to get a hotel room NOW, and drive my Mustang to Vegas. I may not get tickets to the actual race, but I could at least be 'in the area' to enjoy other race related events.

I know some folks like that. They are USERS. If they know that you are a Giving type of person, they will suck you dry---- and not in a good way.

That's really sad. I have also cut ties with people like that. My Sister let me know that "I was only an ATM for her". That was about 8 years ago. I cut her off financially, and she has never seen me since that day.

I'm lovin' the dysfunctional family stories and projecting a World Champion F1 driver is bringing out. I'm almost starting to think Max isn't the "issue". :laughing

Seb wasn't well liked during his championship runs, but now they're giving retirement parties...
