a friend of mine wants to work with a good instructor to teach her, a total beginner, how to safely handle and shoot guns. she lives in sf and needs someone who can supply everything needed to learn.

I know a guy, he's not an instructor per se, but he's moto people and likes the ideal of anyone who's interested in firearms knowing how to use them effectively. Been thinking about hitting him up myself.
 
I’ve taken several newbies to the range. Ask around or visit/call the closest gun range. Most ranges will have an instructor or know of one. Please pay for the ammo you use if you go with a friend. That stuff isn’t cheap.

I like .22’s for beginners. Long guns first, then pistols.

You haven't said "where". Its a big state...and a big Bay Area w/traffic.
