ffs. all you need is a disabled car on the shoulder and a couple of lives are ruined. smh.

worked CDF at Del Puerto station for 2 years. Saw some shit on I 5.

Crappy driver behavior for sure.

But…this illustrates once again the need for a 3rd lane on I5 ( or a 4th or 5th).
It’s ridiculous that the main artery between SF and LA was opened in 1979 and still has only 2 lanes going and coming.

A friend of mine witness that happen when he was young. It was ugly. Starting for life.

i agree. there are way too many cars on that section not to have three lanes. we have two lanes here in southern oregon and even that is a PITA at times.

I had/seen that exact same thing happen to me. The dude passed on the shoulder at over 100mph and kicked up a rock that cracked my windshield. Once I could, I accelerated to catch him, got his plate and called it in. Never did him pulled over. About 2 years later, I was stopped at a rest stop (in the same area) and got talking to a cop. Just out of curiosity, I asked him if he knew anything (fully expecting him to not remember/know anything about it). He asked the make of the car and then said...oh yeah, we got him. Turns out they did pull him over and the driver gave the cops a tremendous attitude. They took him to jail.

Another time, I had a car cut me off (I had to take evasive action to keep from getting sideswiped). About a half a mile later I see dust and come up on the same car sliding to a stop in the middle of the road on it's roof. Instant karma.

Sad that I've seen that too.

So glad I no longer have relatives in LA.

I've learned to accept there will always be traffic.

Even when they opened up to three lanes in my stretch of 99 from Livingston to Turlock there was less traffic for like a week? Then it went back to normal to pretty packed traffic.

I just accept that if I have to cage it leave fifteen minutes early.

Pretty wild, of course people also do this in SF, apparently the oncoming lane in residential areas doubles as a high speed passing lane for put out luxury car owners frustrated with people doing the speed limit :laughing

I take 101 and avoid 5. It adds an hour at the most when I go to San Diego. You get to go through real towns and there's coastal sections too. It would be nice if the Semi's could go the speed limit legally. I hate it when a Semi takes 5 miles to pass another Semi going a 1/2 mph slower.
