Moved to Texas in Sept. 2024. Bought a house, some firearms, and do illegal lane splitting.

I use my bike and split lanes daily and year round.
My guns,... rarely used.


Seems more reasonable to move somewhere for better riding than for better shooting.

Is it hard to get the subsonic rounds in Vegas?

Not at all. Nearly every gun shop stocks subs out here. I’ve been buying in bulk through PSA everytime I see a good deal. Just bought 2000 rnds of Fiocchi 5.7 subsonics.

I may have gotten carried away with Cerakoting a couple of my guns in Desert Tiger Stripe. Just getting tired of the whole black rifle thing. I wanted to spruce up PS90 while I’m waiting to SBR it, decided to practice on my 10/22 first, did the PS90, then did my Five-seveN for giggles. C-series (air cure) Cerakote so I didn’t risk melting the stock in the oven.

Is it not supposed to? I think I’ve had maybe 2 FTEs out of 180ish rounds.

Completely stock internals and receiver. Barrel, mag release, and stock were upgraded 16 years ago.

However, I looked up the serial number on this rifle and it dates back to 1980. To say that it’s well broken-in is an understatement.

Well-broken in may be the answer. My 10/22 will cycle CCI Mini-Mags flawlessly BUT anything with less than 1200fps turns the Ruger into a Jam-O-Matic.

Other issue is softer nosed lead. Failure to feed likely, though I think that more a magazine issue. My mags and rifle are of a more recent vintage.

Your trio is nice looking and agree that the Cerakote breaks up the dullness of black finished firearms.

People said that the subs would mess up in my 15-22 but the thing loves them and haven't had an issue with them.

Gotta love a free state I didn't even know they made subs for 5.7. Learn something everyday.

Are any pop you militia wonks into .22 LR and in need of rounds? What is it like buying ammo these days in CA? Are prices reasonable, and are rounds available? Any calibers more difficult than others to find? I haven't been in a LGS in ages, nor have I been to a range in ages. That I need to rectify.

We can only wish that they can have the stuff we can get outside CA. With wait times for suppressors down to almost nothing and no tax stamp costs I am looking to amend my trust and go on a spree.

Buying ammo in California still sucks. No more shipping to your door. 11% sin tax. People who haven't bought ammunition in years getting denied because they may not have a recent firearm purchase on file, so they have to do the enhanced background check at a higher cost.
Best thing I ever did was get my C&R FFL and CA CoE, so I can avoid all of the B.S.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think the bare minium cost to aquire and maintain an FFL is in CA these days?

I buy a lot of stuff out of state when legal, and amunition by the pallet to try and save money where I can. I am REALLY frustrated with this years changes, where I can no longer buy even basic replacement parts to maintain my firearms without going through a FFL. Many of the vendors I have used in the past have just put their hands up and no longer shipping to CA, FFL or not.

My 10/22 is recent vitage too, 2025..... cycles eveything I've ever put it through. I run CCI standard velocity lead nose 1070 FPS all day long in it, as well as many other 1000 +/- FPS rounds. I save the copper plated Mini Mags and other higher velocity for my semi auto pistols, which can be picky, and require frequent cleaning.

I used to have a similar problem as yours with my AR-7 I've had since early childhood. What I thought was clean, wasnt even close, and needed a more aggressive approach to bore cleaning to cycle reliably.

edit: I use Ruger factory 10/22 magazines. The single Promag I tried was problematic.

I don't remember initial cost.
FFL 03 renewal is $30 every 3 years.
CoE $22 annually.
I save well over that cost annually given the smallbore leagues that I shoot in and the high end ammo that I use. Also picked up a couple of vintage rifles along the way.

Do tell what vintage rifles? I don't have a desire to own vintage rifles but I do like to drool over the ones others have.
