I've never ridden any of the east bay dirt, is it worth a BART trip?
Depends on what you like and what you're riding. East Bay Regional Park District is pretty restrictive for bikes on singletrack. Lake Chabot is 1.5 miles from my doorstep, so it's certainly convenient and the ample hill climbs make for a good workout. You can find some legal singletrack at Chabot and when combined with the median singletrack trail along Skyline, you can string together a decent 20-ish mile loop from Castro Valley. For gravel bikes, the east bay is actually pretty fantastic since the majority of bike-legal trails are wider fire roads. You can string together a pretty lengthy gravel ride and be on mostly dirt, for example, this: https://dirtyfreehub.org/routes/northern-california/beast/I've never ridden any of the east bay dirt, is it worth a BART trip?

Believe me, I resist that temptation because it’s good for me. Not because I wouldn’t have a good time.If anyone wants to try this bike, let me know. Except Mike95060. Because it has a .......motor. The Horror.....It feels so much different than my Gen 3 Levo S-Works mullet. I am not an aggressive rider because I am older than Mike, but it feels more nimble and rolls so much faster. I'll deliver it within a reasonable distance.

Same! I like (?) torturing myself!Believe me, I resist that temptation because it’s good for me. Not because I wouldn’t have a good time.![]()
Select a recovery day and give it a whirl.Believe me, I resist that temptation because it’s good for me. Not because I wouldn’t have a good time.![]()
That's the problem Ken. I have and, I know me well enough to know it wouldn't stick to recovery days.Select a recovery day and give it a whirl.
I have a lot of lost muscle to rebuild. Acoustic it is for me! I am not opposed to e-bikes. I'm just not ready for one.Well y'all, (say, how's my "Murrican?), if all y'all make it to 67 y'all may sing a different tune. Just sayin'..... (more 'Murrican from a PDO, Poor Dumb Immigrant). Seriously, one school of thought is that you can get to the top faster, and do more loops of your favorite run. Mike, you remember Deric, I am sure. He used to give me shit for buying a Levo. He was (probably still is) in excellent shape. He and his wife Jen rented Levos from the experience center one day and rode UCS. and Wilder. The next week he had a Levo S-Works and she had the Expert.
SWMBO ( my wife, aka "She Who Must Be Obeyed) is 73, and has an artificial hip and arthritis in her lower spine. That is her excuse (I keed, I keed)... riding is her outlet that keeps her what, balanced? Sane?. I could still do an analog bike, did for a while, but I cannot keep up with her on her e-bike. Aaaaaannnnd.... I'm ok with it.
I am yearning for a CF analog MTB, which would of course be from Spesh. Because, discountMy son has a collection, among which is an Epic that he built up. 21 lbs!!! It is nuts how light that thing is, with a full suspension setup. I was checking out the Stumpy line but they are north of 31 lbs. The S-Works Epics Ultra Light is 18 lbs, 14 oz.
He has cautioned me that it might be too much bike for me. I told him that to me a bike is really nothing more than a frame and two wheels, and I need to adapt to its characteristics. It isn't a horse or a cow, after all, it is a machine. Am I perhaps a Stegasourus?
