There has to be real (not necessarily public) data on every military aircrafts performance in every configuration right? Like someone in charge has to know EXACTLY what each aircraft can do and when.
Do airforce and navy pilots get to "play" with the jets in non-combat configurations?
Just me over here day dreaming about tooling around in a totally slick Viper

Oh, yea, the chase planes are all wrong. The landscape pretty much also, but minimally the chase plane. Space Shuttle didn't tend to need armed escort.
