At last, Brits get serious about dentistry

Jeez, how expensive could it be in the UK? The US dental prices couldn't be higher than what we pay for dental & orthodontia - I paid $1300 for a root canal two years ago. Not including the crown.

If you're pulling in ~$70 a week in benefits, that's a lot of cash.

Just goes to prove that privatizing the health industry works wonders!

"Where NHS dental services are available, people are happy with the quality of treatment provided but many find the NHS fee system confusing and expensive, with some patients taking out loans to pay for treatment or more worryingly taking matters into their own hands."

But wait, I thought the British health care system was perfect? Something to be emulated here in America.

It's funny, people who are not in a NHS preach about how great they are but the people who have to use them always seems to complain about them.:confused

Wot a fucking shock.

First of all, find me a post where I said the NHS was perfect? Go on, try. :twofinger

And reading comprehension is your friend - my whole point in THIS thread is that the NHS, on the denistry side, is going semi-private, which is what is causing all the problems - it's not 100% govt. funded anymore, leading to exorbitant fees :loser

That whole 'privatization' word should have given it away...

Go figure, dentists want to earn $$ and avoid gov't redtape too. Not really a surprise is it?
Even with our current system, my dentist is considering refusing most HMO coverage in favor of greenbacks.

Actually, the history behind it isn't the dentists wanting to earn more, it's the govt. offloading liability.

So, so ner :twofinger

Me dad used to pull our teeth out with pliers if they were wobbly already (ya know, yer baby teeth) :toothless

I know one guy who got a full set of dental implants in Thailand, another got his set done in Indonesia. Both look fantastic for 1/3 of the cost of US dentists. How foreign dentistry stacks up to the US with regard to education, procedure and hygiene is best left to your individual research.
