I am specifically asking about the models made after 1980. Are they a maintenance money hole? Do they need frequent service, and are the parts expensive? I know we're talking about an italian car here, but one can always hope.

If you get one, you won't be able to wear your Nugent cowboy hat in it without being attacked by wild hoards of ghey men.

I had a 1977. Great car minus the electrics. Plus it had mechanical fuel injection, the 80s ones had Bosch. They also had those ugly tail lights and stupid rubber spoiler. If I were you I'd look for a '74 when they had the cool split bumper in front. Mechanically Alfas, especially the older ones, are very sound, just have the typical Italian electrics. But mine never left me stranded.

-1 on any alfa with spica mech. fuel inj. only a few people can tune/fix spica. get one with efi. alfa's are solid cars. you do need to look under the hood more than with a honda.

You REALLY wanna buy an Alpha? :rofl You could buy yourself a nice Triumph TR8 for less. Is this gonna be a daily driver?

I'd start here: http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/spider-1966-up/ :nerd

My Alfa was a daily driver. But I also had a good but somewhat reasonably priced mechanic in Walnut Creek. Except he kept telling me he could get another 80 horsepower if I'd just spend the money. :laughing
