CHP selective enforcement (A tradition on 92?)

I would like to have a discussion with the officer of what the PC for the stop was before I voulnteered any information

It could get interesting, though. I don't believe they have to disclose to you what their probable cause or resonable suspicion is prior to asking for ID. They just have to have it, and can articulate it in court if need be.

Time for a lawyer...

I'm on that stretch 4/5 work days and there are always plenty of cars pulled over for speeding..my radar detector goes off all the time around there

I find it rather disturbing that many people in this thread actually think this is ok. Why should I be stopped if I am doing nothing wrong,to prove I am doing nothing wrong? Think about that, really, think about that. Would it then be ok to have this kind of "legality" check at a grocery store? Or how about to drop your kids off at school? Or to walk down the street?

Hey if I am doing nothing wrong I should have nothing to worry about right? This is how totalitarian governments get started. I am against DUI/drivers license checkpoints as well. Why should they need to see your license if they are checking to see if you are drunk? One has nothing to do with the other.

I have no problem providing an officer with my paperwork if I am in violation, but for no other reason than to see if I have it I feel is harrassment. I thought this was a free country.

Yup, cops can do whatever the hell they want and get away with it.

bah...welcome to my world as a Black man...:x

yeah why worry about giving up some rights for security if you are not doing anything wrong? that is a huge problem now a days, I would love to have the public security cameras that england has all over. damn I wouldnt need be concerned so much about paying $900 to have a lojack installed, cause the jerk would be caught on govt paid security cameras.
umm phis my outgoing emails, internet etc.. for key words that may save a plane from a terrorist, just think that could be my girlfriend, family etc... on that plane. worse yet that plane may crash into a garage that houses my 08 speedy..... everything but a cavity search to save my baby..
So you wouldn't mind a body cavity search being included too? I mean after all, some people hide drugs there, they really need to make sure that you aren't.

Actually, it's probably more that most of us think there are more important things in life to get worked up over than this. Not all of us think little inconveniences like this are gonna lead us down the slippery slope to a police state, nor are we part of the paranoid minority who thinks we're already there. This stuff if whambulance material, if you ask me.

I thought it is legal to do DUI checkpoints, but illegal to do it for any other cirscumstance; If I remember right, that is what the Supreme Court ruled about 10 years ago (I remember going over the case in some college class that I took).

So, has anyone ignored the attempt at flagging them down? Maybe they're not allowed to chase you if you refuse to stop.

Yup, you are. BTW, have you ever read the actual Patriot Act or do you just get your information from MoveOn.org?

A leo on the news over the weekend was talking about the rise in moto fatalities and gas prices etc.. He also said that 40% of these involved unlicensed motorcyclists (He rightly suggested people get trained and licensed before getting on a bike) . If a road side stop weeds out some of the unlicensed riders, I'm all for it. :dunno

Welcome to the Bush police state. Give me your papers, or I'll shoot you. Maybe I'll just shoot you anyway. I can do that, I'm a cop. I can handcuff you to a tree, shoot you in the back, and say I thought you were going to attack me and get a four-week paid vacation.

You're full of shit. CA is a blue state. If you want to say welcome to the police state, blame it on the dems.
