CHP selective enforcement (A tradition on 92?)

You're full of shit. CA is a blue state. If you want to say welcome to the police state, blame it on the dems.

Yeah, it always cracks me up when the liberals rant about the Republican police state, when its the Dems that are at the root of almost all the nanny state legislation. Funny how the two biggest nanny states in the nation, New York and California, are Democrat strongholds.

You think it was a group of Republicans behind the closure of Clear Creek? The death of the 2 stroke? The introduction of MTBE into our gasoline (and water table)?

Yup, you are. BTW, have you ever read the actual Patriot Act or do you just get your information from MoveOn.org?

If you want to have a patriot act debate thread we can make one,but thats not what I want to debate here. The point I was trying to make was that given the opportunity authority will take whatever freedoms they can unchecked.

Stopping people that are doing nothing illegal to make them prove they are doing nothing illegal is completely unconstitutional. That is why it annoys me. And as an American,it should bother you as well.

doesnt bother me. I would rather have dui check points and random stops to check for uninsured/unlicensed drivers anyday. who knows maybe they catch a intoxicated rider as well, that is one less dead rider or tramatized family.

now if only the border patrol could take such actions.

so where would you draw the line for random checks? Monitoring in your car for speeding? Or cell phone use? Speeding and driver distraction cause more accidents then unlicensed motorcyclists or drunk driving combined. You wouldn't be opposed to something like that? It would save us all from being "tramatized" wouldn't it?

Welcome to the Bush police state. Give me your papers, or I'll shoot you. Maybe I'll just shoot you anyway. I can do that, I'm a cop. I can handcuff you to a tree, shoot you in the back, and say I thought you were going to attack me and get a four-week paid vacation.

Ohhhh here we go.

There are tons of cops that are way cool. There are also lots of ahole cops, but I doubt they were cool cops prior to bush taking ofice.

Shit if you're really that paranoid move to canada....

Code pink much????

Whats the problem? Damn good idea. See a motorcycle, pull over to check if licensed. See a mexican? Check out citizenship/green card. Whats the percentage of illegals in this state? Probably similar to that 40% of motorcyclists are unlicensed.

Edit* didnt mean I am down with this idea that the OP is talking about, but if its happening then it should be for things across the board.

Id just be happy to get rid of so many of the damn illegals around here :D

Those cops are just messing up my laptimes y0.

But yea F that you should always ask why they pulled you over. Its not like you have to show you have insurance, it should be in the damn computer. When's the last time you had to show dmv insurance papers to register your car or bike.

Maybe, but according to the supreme court it's ok :party. They have held up checkpoints, mostly because the small infringement to the individual is outweighed by the benefit to society.

Wait a minute...actually there are tons of things getting in the way of my freedoms ever day (one example: laws). I don't feel I should have to stop at this red light. I was doing nothing wrong....:wow

It would never work.If they started checking all the Mexicans they would never have time to harass the sportbike riders:twofinger

Courts have ruled that DUI checkpoints are not required to show probable cause for the traffic stop.

On the other hand these dragnet type traffic stops happening on Hwy-92 are not DUI checkpoints. Unless the officers observed some sort of law breaking activity in my unedumacated opinion they lack probable cause for the traffic stop.

Make a call to your local ACLU.

If they flag you down you're required to stop.

"I didnt see you" if they bother to come after you.

Seem them pulling this crap on 92 just before the bridge. IMO it's bullshit and we should be be obligated to stop.

We have the technology for electronic enforcement and I don't see why we aren't using it. If you pass a checkpoint and your shit ain't legit it kills your engine. This is much better then getting razzed by some dick CHP because his coffee is cold..

Could be that the group was screening for a known criminal on a bike in the area? Dunno since the op didn't pull over to find out what was REALLY going on. I'm no fan of LEO's but I don't mind contacting them. Wanna flag me down? Go right ahead. Just don't be a dickhead to me once I stop. We will never know the officers' attitude's or intentions. Maybe they were handing out free raffle tickets to a moto-safety-awareness class:dunno

Actually, NM, they would have put that on the CSO's:laughing

I say no big woop unless you get a bogus ticket out of it. I'm for it if they catch some of the tards riding without licenses or insurance.

BTW, I rode up there (92/1/84/35/9) today thinking I could avoid the crowds/cops. Did about 100 miles and saw 1 sheriff and 4 CHP during that time. More than I see on a typical weekend...
That's because on Sunday we saw all kinds of crashes on shyline and 9. We road though after 7 pm (normally when all the squids are off the hill) and saw all of this. I think eveyone is getting a little tired of this.
BUT THAT DOES NOT EXCUSE BEING STOPPED FOR PAPERS!!!

Anyone for a run of these? :D

"Get rid of the squids, stop the ricky racers from crashing & endangering others, ticket those with no M1 or insurance.....but don't inconvenience me."

:rolleyes

+1000 If i get stopped for no reason on my bike just to see if im legal im gonna be pissed.Catch the bad guys the old fashioned way.Do the Police Work:twofinger

Not all bad guys speed, look like Charles Manson or have a neon sign that says "looky here, criminal in action"

People (riders included) are fed up with the crashes and deaths so the cops are just reacting to it as they should. We all want safer roads without the dumbfucks on it so we need to be able to make small sacrifices here and there so the man can do his job. Can't have everything our way all the time.
