How many LEOs do it and why would you not do it? Specifically for Registered Nurses.

I write mechanicals but let the movers go. You best not be rolling with a cracked windshield or headlight out when I'm on! And don't even let me see you without mudflaps on your truck!!!

Professional courtesy goes too far when you write up a 286.(a)PC charge as "walking too close"... :rofl

Why?

What is the difference bewteen an RN, a plumber, a pilot, a waitress, or anyone else?

Do RNs give professional courtesy and reduce law enforcement health care bills?

Doing a great job reducing collisions in your city.

Or another LEO??? Double standard always applied by LEO on this one, and
only they are deserving, seriously.
But, on the other serious hand, why would you single out RNs for special treatment?

I've heard other officers say something similar to, "If I get shot, I don't want the nurse to see me and remember that I gave him/her a citation and say screw this guy."

The way I look at it is if the nurse, doctor or whoever gets me on their table. Hopefully they will do the responsible thing, and do their job. The same thing I did when they were going 40 in a 25, ran a stop sign, or went through a red light.

I don't have a rule that says "I won't give <enter whatever profession here> a ticket."

A lot of factors contribute to determine who gets a warning and who does not. I've let RN's go, I've also written RN's tickets....

Think of it as the lottery; You never know with me.. you might win, you might not! It's the thrill of it! hahaha

What about professional courtesy for software engineers?

If you write me a ticket, I may not patch your software. Think about that.

:rolleyes

Probably not something that should be discussed in an open forum...:shocker

Exactly. Corruption should be kept secret.

Professional courtesy... :rofl

The CHP are the only ones who are professional in this regard, which is why they enjoy such a high reputation in this state.

If you'd rather we have no discretion what so ever.... fine by me. I'll write tickets all day long and no matter what you're excuse, tough shit.

J-walk to avoid an assault? Tough shit, here's your ticket. Why? Cause Pat told me to.

I used to get courtesy thirty years ago in SF, when I drove a company truck and every cop in SF had a brother in IBEW 6. Those days are gone :laughing

I got stopped once for speeding and running a red light on my way to lunch. The LEO asked me what the hurry was and I said I had my head up my ass and was on the way to lunch. He looked really disgusted but let me go. Go figure. That was about 1980

What you are asking about isn't "professional courtesy". The idea of any LEO being more lenient for one group of people than another comes from a sense of entitlement and an over inflated ego. :thumbdown

The ONLY way I could see a LEO not write a ticket for speeding, red light running, or any other act that would get the rest of us written up is if the driver was a doctor on his way to a medica emergency. :|

I think there is a difference but I am a little biased since I'm a RN. :cool

I may not be able to reduce your bill but I have extended professional courtesy may times to police officers and detectives by going out of my way to help them do their work. Does helping save a SFPD officers life count? Would I have done this anyway? Yes I would have because it is what I do for a living and I am good at it.

I ask for professional courtesy, if it is not given then I will go on my way with ticket in hand and deal with it.
