Been here twenty years. Never been mugged, attacked, or had my house broken into. I don't even worry about going out, I go where I want. I don't generall go into the hot zones.

In SF my truck was broken into 3 times and I lost way over $15k in tools. In SF I got attacked on the street twice and a junkie tried to mug me in the Tenderloin but he was shaking so bad he dropped the knife.

what general area of oakland do u live in, if u dont mind me asking?



but agreed, i think the city is just as dangerous, if not worse. cant convince my girlie of that (she is from SF, she never ran into any BS while she lived and grew up there), but she is quite convinced the city is exponentially safer :rofl

i dont feel 100% comfortable in either Oakland or SF
 
ive lived in oakland my entire life and have never had anything bad happen to me or anyone i know. i think a girl punched me when i was in elementary school (that bitch stole my chinese jump rope and i confronted her) but that was it. oakland is a great town and there's no reason to live in fear of what probably won't happen. hell, y'all ride motorcycles down the freeway but you dont wanna walk down the street in fear of getting mugged?

from what i understand, most of the people killing others and getting killed are thugs that don't get along. im sure they are wonderful taxpayers and fathers and mothers and its a shame when any young person loses their life, but thats just what happens when a community doesnt have a foundation or a kid grows up without a family that cares or listens. IMHO its mostly a result of poverty and lack of education.

I live in the lower Laurel, which is just above 580 near Laurel and Maple streets.

I happen to live in Oakland. For the ignorant (yourself included), just about every city has its "shithole" areas. Yes, even where you are, believe it or not.

San Jose, SF, LA, every major CA city has major problem areas. I like living in Oakland. I don't walk the streets in fear. Unless I see Hooli coming.
 
Maybe other cities are the competition, but I've only heard of Oakland working so hard to break the prior year's record in homicide. Remember Scoop Nisker? "If you don't like the news, go out and make some of your own"...

um yeah duh, u r on the north/east side of 580. on the 'good' side of the imaginary line that is 580. you are just a few blocks from UPPER UPPER rich ass piedmont. where you live could hardly be considered what most people refer to as "Oakland"

no wonder u feel so safe and comfortable

Lmfao, you couldn't be more wrong. The one time I went to buy the trackbike from him , I can tell you that afm199 most definitely does NOT reside on the "good" side...if you walked through there at night, you'd probably shit your pants. :p

A few blocks from Piedmont? I am a few miles from Piedmont and two blocks from the 35th ave murder a few months ago, and 100 feet from the dakota st murder. Ten years ago the phone lines on my block were shot out by an AK 47. We have had four murders in my area in a year...:rofl:rofl:rofl
Four blocks from my house you can buy hookers and blow on 35th and school

Even that hooli guy gets nervous here. We all have pitbulls and guns. I got my house cheap because the last tenant was a meth dealer.
