Couldn't figure out where else to ask.

So I sold the 4 speed CT70H motor I have on the workbench that's about half disassembled - the cylinder and head are removed, but the cases aren't split.

What's the best way to package this up to ship so that it won't get damaged?

I figured I'd at least wrap everything individually, but are there any tricks out there aside from tossing it into a cardboard box?

Well put it all back together then bolt it to a board and stick it in a double lined box and fill it with foam. Also if you want to do a little more you can also bag and motor once it attached with a board with a big garbage bag, This will keep any fluids from leaking on to the box.

Fluids already drained. That's a good idea about the board.

Thanks B.

Even though you think you got all of them drained there will still be some that will come out. Ive had numerous motors shipped to me that have been drained and still oil gets all over the place.

I guess if you split the cases and cleaned it all out with a rag your good but other then then there is still oil in there, trust me.

I'm gonna put it in a plastic bag

Yeah drain it well as you did and just put it back together (so no loose parts are floating) and just box it up..

We never bolt them (however that is a really good idea)

We get motors and ship them ALOT and we just double box them... And put some good padding...

Never had one messed up since we started in the 90's

bolting to a board seems to work pretty well.

I had a NICE motor come from Thailand once that was in a double boxed, no bag, and not bolted to a board and by the time it got to my door the head of the motor was poking out the side of the oil slimed box. :thumbdown

Any guesstimate on a cost to ship from here to Massachusetts?

I figure about $50-50 NOW with all the fuel surcharges they have now... I think it weights about 43 lbs off the top of my memory... Sorry to hear about your bad shipping deal Brad... Weird never had any issues.... Isnt the nice motor the one you can build up over 140cc's Is it a HOnda or a replica one?

**thread jack**

Yeah they are Thai Honda motors, made in Thailand not Japan by honda.

Yeah you can build them up to 176cc even. Mines only at 137cc for reliability issues. But my buddy Greg has his at 146cc with a takegawa +R head and it seems very stable.

Im about to build up another one and im leaning towards 146+R with it.

Plz don't start w/ the NICE motor stuff again. :drool

Lifan

My Lifan 150 was double boxed and bagged and still managed to leak. It busted threw the box and was repacked by UPS. They tried their best but it was still an oily mess and I was missing accessories.

If I was shipping to a friend I would bolt it to a milk crate then zip tie the hell out of it. Bagged as well...

PS, I ride my Nice powered ZB almost everyday it is not raining. Starts on kick and runs all day long...

Gosh, thanks for that. :|

I need your bank account, Greg.

I used a triple wall shipping carton to ship a 50 motor. They have some rated to ship items up to 275 lbs. Just double pack the motor into heavy duty clear plastic bags from top to bottom then bubble wrap, bubble wrap, bubble wrap as much as will fit around the motor as well as inside the shipping carton. Luckily I work for a logistics company so I have access to this sort of stuff but you can go to a place like ULINE, Grainger, or even UHAUL to purchase the stuff. Shipping will be based on weight and location. It will be cheaper to ship to a business address then a residential.
