SF loud pipe crackdown

Do power commanders, corbin seats, or dual sport tires make loud noise that disturb the public?
Do dumb ape hangers? Do turn signals an inch too close? Does not having a rear red reflector? Does not having a front license plate on a car? Do tinted windows? How about a non-CARB-approved air filter?

I'm surprised that these things bother you and not loud harleys like a neighbor of mine that can wake me up at 1am in the morning 5 blocks away from my house.

That's not what I meant. You seemed to imply that the other things mentioned won't become illegal because they don't "disturb the public." I just listed a bunch of mods that shouldn't disturb anyone but are still illegal in California.

And for the record, I like loud bikes in the right setting. Hearing them roar up Skyline leaving Alice's is pretty neat. Hearing them sit at stop lights and constantly pumping the throttle is obnoxious. It's not as easy as "all loud pipes are bad." My bike's louder than stock, but I don't know that it'd catch the attention of this crackdown.

I'm all for dealing with this issue individually then taking on the other issues individually.
Some of the items you mention should remain illegal, IMO.
Ape hangers, for example.

People getting into acidents and injury resulting in road closures, traffic jams, and other results ... disturbs the public.

Uanble to safely control the bike
I've seen people control the bikes just fine.

My bike's hard to control at low speed with a passenger, perhaps riding two-up should be illegal. Hell, cruisers in general don't control as well as a nice sport bike, we should just make cruisers illegal. Or wouldn't any motorcycle be a lot safer if it had four wheels?

You think it's okay to ban something because you think it could be unsafe. (I've never seen anyone with ape hangers display a lack of control while riding, just a lack of taste.) The majority of the non-motorcycling population thinks you riding any motorcycle is unsafe. Truth.

Why does everything that "could" be a safety issue have to be illegal? How about if some turd with ape hangers causes an accident because he can't control his bike he is simply held responsible for his actions, instead of imposing a law on thirty-five million Californians and harassing offenders with fix-it tickets while they'e minding their own business and not causing problems.

Careful. Accept this sort of logic and you leaving your house could be construed as a public disturbance.

You aren't going to convince me that having to listen to that crap is in my best interest.
My right to not be aurally assaulted is as important as your right to be as loud as you want.
One person's rights end where another person's begin.
Make noise where you don't disturb other people.

That's not nice, not for the people who live/work there , besides it's going to bring more police attention anyway.

Why don't you look up PC 415. You wasted my time just reading your dribble.

Take it up with management.

California Penal Code § 415
§ 415. Disturbing the Peace

Any of the following persons shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail for a period of not more than 90 days, a fine of not more than four hundred dollars ($400), or both such imprisonment and fine:

(1) Any person who unlawfully fights in a public place or challenges another person in a public place to fight.

(2) Any person who maliciously and willfully disturbs another person by loud and unreasonable noise.

(3) Any person who uses offensive words in a public place which are inherently likely to provoke an immediate violent reaction.

Not sure this applies, from what I can tell the loud pipe guys are idiots, not malicious. They think they sound good.

Sirens. Car alarms. Garbage trucks. Delivery trucks. Automobile horns. Screaming
passersby. Motorcycle pipes. The steady roar of rush hour traffic. Car stereos.

A shout in the street. . .

Then noise from loud motorcycles shouldn't stand out, yet it does.

The point is that a lot of people are sick of the noise, including a sizeable chunk of the motorcycling community.
