Vintage motorcycle gold mine?

Could get it out into the light. It was pretty buried. Short video of it.

I brought this one home with me. Used to have a 185 as a kid. This one still had air in the tires, engine could be kicked over and had good compression and the gearbox felt good. OH! And almost new tires! :laughing This might be up and running soon. My new desert rat bike :)

Sell them as "project bikes" or even for parts! Tons of fans are looking for original parts and what not. You'll def. make someone happy somehow!

That bike has 'camping' stamped all over it. :thumbup

RE: the "RD"

RD? I don't think so - that hi-pipe Yammie with the speedo/tach combo in the headlite shell is the pre-R5 model...YM1C?

regardless, it appears that you've inherited a salvage yard time capsule

there really is value in certain of those bikes, depending on their damages & 'character'

good luck with your ultimate resolution

Hawk, like an NT650?

I couldn't get to it very well, but all it said on both side plates was "Hawk". Could not get to any frame plates.

Really? Thanks for the info. I was only guessing RD based on trying to find pics on the net for it. It was pretty buried behind some 20 ton steel presses (the warehouse doubled as some kind of machine shop at some point). Looking at the engine though it looks like the heads are more square than the YM1 or YDS3. :dunno

Very interesting... if bikes could talk.. :wow

here is one of the CB360's

That is why 30 bikes may not make it back to my house.

I have a 3 bike trailer I will either lend or drive down there to make sure that at least 3 bikes do not get tossed in the dumpster by the city of LA.

Dale, I just remembered a good friend of mine that moved down to LA a couple of years ago not only has a CB550, but his gf has a CB360 and they usually need parts.

I'll see if he has any interest in a parts bike or two.

Thx Marlow and Ohio. I think now that I have laid eyes on them now, I will see what kind of salvage yards in the LA area might want to pick them up. If I was any more of a gear head or even had the time it would be fun to try and do something. But reality is, I just am not going to be able to have the time to hang on to these to shop them out or even clean them up. In the meantime, I am open to all offers :teeth :laughing

You left the 360 there?! :wow

yeah :(

there are actually two in really good shape. I decided that since there are so many CB360's that I should keep the 'lot' together for more value. Same with the 750 Fours.

There was one little CB125 that was so cool looking and would have made a great rat bike. I loved the shape of the tank and the look of the bike. Looked like a mini Harley Flat Tracker. Had to leave that one too :cry

It's the blue tank after another 360. The Hawk is toward the end in Orange in the back.

err, I got an RD400 a couple of years ago. No title, but the bike is complete and not too corroded. Motor is free and has compression. I'm working on getting it titled, and I've got the ignition lock at a locksmith's right now to get a key made.

Once you've got a list of what's in that collection, maybe we can talk about a trade. I'm 600 miles north of you, but I make a trip or two down there every year to visit friends and family.

Didn't read the whole thread, but thought I could help you and the OP out here, before reading that far (unless someone beat me to the punch and suggested this already, and I now look like a lazy schmuck...). :facepalm

http://www.its-titles.com/

Not recommending for or against this specific business, as there are many online - this was just the first result in a quick search. It's pretty common for "barn finds" and inherited vehicles to not have titles or paper trails. A title replacement service is a licensed and bonded service in their home state - basically, you "sell" the vehicle to them on paper, and pay them a processing fee. They complete the sale and application for title in their home state once the VIN comes back clean. Once they receive a new title in their home state for the vehicle, they "sell" it back to you and transfer title.

This circumvents a LOT of DMV headaches, is fully legit, and will let you know if your vehicle is stole or has any liens against it. Many DMV's have a set number of years after which a vehicle is deleted from its system if it is continuously unregistered - they figure that the vehicle has been wrecked or otherwise taken out of service, so no back fees owed (a no title to transfer - a new one will be required).

Fully legit service - I've used it myself for a classic car, but I can't remember the name of the company at the moment. Now, replacement body VIN tags for restored vehicles are another story entirely - many shady uses for those, and many shady companies issuing them...

Good luck, n10sive - if you happen to feel charitable, I'll take any complete street-legal machine you care to give away. :teeth

If the CB 550 is even remotely serviceable I will gladly make the trip down, pick it up (and any other 2 bikes you want brought back), and compensate you equally to a salvage yard. I've wanted to do a cafe CB four for awhile.
