CHP officer injured while lane sharing. Hit by Road Rager.

:wow

Bastid.. I hope they catch him and I hope we will see an attempted murder charge.

sucks. lame. there's a comment that says "i make motorcyclists work for it." because they dont understand why lanesharing is legal and is annoying.

always facing this dilemma - just split to the front, and can tell that the cars i'm next to are not happy about it for whatever fucking reason - but don't want to gun it at the green light because i'm in SF, and red-light runners are a dime a dozen...

comments in that post are fun:

"I've never understood the law that it's okay for a motorcyclist to "share a lane" with a car so he/she can "get to the front." More people than not are really upset when that happens. I'm not going to run a motorcyclist off the road but I make them work for it."

Wow just wow! Man now that shit is crazy. I hope to god I don't ever run into someone like that on the road.

I wanted to write: "Well, work for your new mirrors, bitch." but resisted the temptation.

They are out there people. This is just another reminder. Heads-up!
...and I obviously hope the officer makes a full recovery.

Fresno is the armpit of humanity.. Why anyone (other than meth addicted tweakers) would choose to live there is beyond me..

I hope they catch this worthless POS.

I didn't know where or if to post this, but I had a road rager try and get me yesterday. I was doing my usual morning commute on San Pablo Dam Rd (Camino Pablo), where traffic is slow to stopped because of Orinda schools, St. Mary's college, etc etc.

Anyway, some driver got mad, seeing that I was able to pass, so he went into the shoulder (and bike lane) and caught up to me as I merged into an open spot and tried to swerve over. Fortunately, that double yellow line isn't as important as surviving, so I eluded him.

Between the heat wave and September traffic, which is always the worst, watch it.

Is it legal to share in a single lane of traffic? I was under the impression that most LEOs thought there needed to be at least two lanes in your direction before you share inbetween them. Hence the idea that people always call it splitting. Am I wrong?

Sadly we share the roads with an uneducated set of vigilantes. I see this everytime I am out in my car or on my bike.

People trying to block while you split, the minivan in the left lane doing 64mph and using the car in the right lane as a blocker, brake checking anyone who comes up behind them.

It would be bad enough if they are trying to enforce laws that exist, but they themselves are ignorant, yet dangerously messing with other people.

Very sad that this has happened, yet not surprised. Hope the officer makes a speedy and full recovery, and hope that the driver is caught and gets what he deserves.

In the meantime hopefully this educates a few people and prevents a few further attacks.

Be careful out there folks - plenty of crazies to go around.

I hope they catch that crazy cager, just his luck he hit a CHP Officer. When I come up to the front of the intersection, I just try to accelerate and make as much room as possible from the cars after the light turns green because a truck had tried to edge into me before.

It woulda' been different had he been on his work bike.

Recover soon, and legally crucify the Toyota driver.

Technically you are wrong. Sharing is not statutorily defined (in the motor vehicle code) and is the correct nomenclature to use for what we do - because it is not defined and therefore is not illegal. "Splitting" however is statutorily defined and is against the law. You cannot "split" the divider, nor can you switch lanes without signaling.

"Sharing" a lane is sharing ONE lane, not two. Therefore a single lane share is permissible IMO. But the problem with single lane share is the deficiency of escape routes. Sharing on the left puts you closer to oncoming traffic and no escape there. Sharing on the right puts you closer to the shoulder (or parked cars) again with little or no escape route. But there are single lane roads I have shared on....
