CHP officer injured while lane sharing. Hit by Road Rager.

sucks that this happened... but I hope it makes chp/po more aware of the situation at hand... not aware enough to make it illegal but aware enough that the look for shit like this more

:wow

Bastid.. I hope they catch him and I hope we will see an attempted murder charge.
BIG Plus ONE
They are out there people. This is just another reminder. Heads-up!
...and I obviously hope the officer makes a full recovery.
Plus TWO
I think we, as a moto community, really need to make a determined effort to eradicate the term "split" or "splitting." It does us no favors at all.
I harp on this, a lot. So plus THREE.

(Damn it. What a f'ed up society!)

hope the officer fully recovers.

and crucify mr. tundra for all us little folk that deal with this everyday...

I'm hearing he may lose a leg. Part was severed.

That is just sad. Guy loses a limb because of some hate mongering lowlife.

Keep your situational awareness and be prepared for these type of drivers.

This is :thumbdown
I cruised around 80mph on the most left lane on 680 and there is a pick-up truck coming out of no where passing me on the left, I mean he use the left shoulder to pass me. WTF? Then I speed up to see the guy face.

Do you know if there is any thing like a gun, but not much sound. I plan to attach it to my tank and when this thing happen and I blow his glass by just passing and pressing the F***ing trigger ????

...

(Damn it. What a f'ed up society!)

That's why I liked Paris so much... hordes of scooters filtering to the front at every red light and drivers totally cool about it and making room... they realize the two wheelers aren't slowing them down or inconveniencing them in any way.

Despite the fact that Americans have more income, more stuff, more prosperity than pretty much anyone in the world, it only seems to be turning them into fat unhappy assholes worried as hell that somebody else is getting something that they're not.

When I commuted through SF (Albany to Brisbane) I ran across somebody who intentionally tried to hit me, when I was lane splitting, about once every 2 days. It was almost always someone in a pick-up truck.

They are out there, you just have to accept it and act accordingly.

Trucks with utility beds are the absolute worst, bar none. Full sized white vans are way up there, too.

When I get some smart ass trying to pinch me, I just weave around 'em on the opposite side so I'm by them before they even realized what happened.

I hope the cop recovers.

I didn't know where or if to post this, but I had a road rager try and get me yesterday. I was doing my usual morning commute on San Pablo Dam Rd (Camino Pablo), where traffic is slow to stopped because of Orinda schools, St. Mary's college, etc etc.

I split (share whatever) very often, and am certainly not trying to discourage the practice, but some places are less likely to antagonize drivers than others. I know where your talking about really well, and you don't gain much by sharing there, if anything. Also, you will have to eventually pull into a free space, so some drivers may see it as "cutting" rather than as bypassing a temporary slowdown...it's no longer a zero sum game.

Also people may get twitchy since your right in front of Wagner Ranch Elementary. I dunno if it was school time or not.

I think it's important to know when not to split as well. Again, not because I don't believe in the practice but as a survival tool.

I'm not sure what you're asking in regards to silent guns, but you know, don't do that.

In other news when in the left lane, let faster traffic by. It's real easy.

Two things wrong.

#1. Cars come out of nowhere only when your not looking
#2. You sped up to see the face of someone crazy enough to pass you on the left shoulder? :wow Stay the fuck away from crazy people.

Your job is not to be right, your job is to stay alive.

Out of curiosity why is it that people on this forum seem to blindly support LEO's no matter the situation. I certainly don't condone the actions of the Tundra but why does it have to be such a big deal that he was a CHP officer. It should be a fellow motorcyclist that got hit. Most officers arent out there to help anyone, they are a money making arm of the government with positions handed out to people that get off on having small amounts of power over people.

Not a gun. It's kind of spring load device that can shoot out.
I see a device sell at Brook store that use to break the glass in the case you in an accident and need to get out of the car. You just have to put it next to the glass and press the button.

I think the support here is for a fellow rider who is very badly injured. I think BARF would rally round any motorcyclist that got taken out by a crazy driver, regardless of their employer.

The fact that he was a CHP officer gives us hope that the general population will not take the attitude that this was a 'speeding biker who got what he deserves' as they usually do.

I don't think LEOs are blindly supported on BARF in general, quite the opposite in fact.

You talk about looking ??? I cruise 80mph I think pretty fast on the highway and this guy pass me from behind real fast may be 100mph and even use the shoulder.

The fact that a crazy fuck passed you on the shoulder at 100mph is exactly why you need to check your back every 10 seconds or so. It doesn't matter what you think. There are many people out there who may kill you. That's really all you need to remember.

The problem is that you need to be watching your 6 and moving over for faster traffic.

If you are doing 80 in the fast lane, and so is the car in the slow lane(s) you are plugging up traffic and should move over. If not it can frustrate following drivers, however it does not excuse them to be reckless, obviously.

The truck driver sounds like he was a reckless moron, and I would have been equally pissed if he had done that to me. I have been passed on the right shoulder before while doing the limit in the right lane - I know where you are coming from. The thing is to try to look out for these situations unfolding and GTF out of the way. If something does kick off, resist the 'fight' reaction and let them go and out of your part of the road ASAP.

This time nothing bad happened, but if someone is nuts enough to pass you on the shoulder at ~100mph, you really don't want to take you chances when you are vulnerable as you are on a bike.
