wakeboard boat advice

not anymore. I have a 1990 Sea Ray now.

actually teh Seaswirls are pretty decent boats.

Are you kidding? It's 29 goddamn feet and ocean worthy. I'd say more like Infinity QX56 drivers- thank you very much.

didn't realize there is a specific seaswirl being discussed. tbh i had to look up the qx56. i'd rather take the money spent on that and trick out an fzj80. the infinity does look like a boat though

Regarding brands, as a long time MC owner, I'm partial to them, but in terms of pure quality, I'd put CC/Nautique either equal to or slightly ahead of MC and Malibu a notch behind. I've always felt MC has had the best designed and performing boats out there, but I have to say that I was very disappointed with the build quality on my last one. Performance was awesome, but the build was not. And I was not alone. MC's quality control fell off big time, IMO, during the 2002-2008 period. I think it's come back somewhat in the last few years, but their prices have gone from ridiculous to uber ludicrous.

Tige Boats :thumbup

Update: we're looking at a Sanger v-210 that we're seriously considering. Overall the boat is pretty decent. The only thing that I'm a little curious about is a crack near where the driveshaft strut mounts to the hull. The crack is only in the yellow material; which appears to be separate from the white part of the hull, but I'm not really sure.

Is this yellowish stuff part of the hull, or is it some separate seal for the strut mount. There's are no signs of damage to the strut, or the surrounding area. Is this something to be concerned about?

Never seen that stuff around the shaft mount before. Wonder if it's a repair. Post up on one of the inboard forums and I'm sure someone will chime in.

I posted it on a Sanger forum. No responses yet though. Clearly I lack patience. I did see a couple of pix of damaged drive/rudder areas of V-210s online, and they both had that same un-gelled fringe around the prop strut mount. There's also a newer V-210 near my house I can go stick my head under tonight.

Responded to you Richard. Sorry for the delay.

That is normal, it's some kind of goofy resin they use around the struts, over time it gets cracks. Check to see if the shaft is true and ask where the boat has been maintained.

Might be something Sanger uses. Didn't have it on my MCs.

Either way, if you're gonna buy, you should have a boat inspection, during which you should have them pull the shaft and check that it's straight.

posted and reposted if the shaft isn't true oh boy are you in for trouble.
There is a "cutlass" bearing that elongates sheck that out as well as the packing gland.

My brother in-law is a Marine Appraiser if you feel the need. He, they can even detect dry rot in fiberglass encapsulated plywood. Pm me if interested. :)
