Hey guys, long time since i've been on here and I miss my bike very much. I wanted to do a trackday with some friends since I miss riding so much. I have all the gear I need, just need a bike. My friend is offering up a mid-90's yamaha fzr 600....but I might want to ride something a little quicker....or newer I should say. Just want to gauge the possibilities of there being a trackbike rental at a reasonable price or someone that is nice enough to rent out a bike to me.
I'm looking at an open trackday at t-hill august 18th.

I had an 06 r6 trackbike for reference. :D

theres a gentlemen by the name of Brian who rents out Ninja 250r's out at T-hill. i believe it is 250 a day. a little steep, but a friend of mine said it was worth it.
 
The organization is called "feel like a pro".. I met a guy at Thill who rented from them and absolutely loved it..

And honestly... a mid 90s FZR600 probably handles worse and is slower around the track..

I believe he is referring to me as that friend and it is worth every penny. For a bike alone I agree its steep but not when you factor in tires (easy to kill more than $250 worth of tires in one day on your own bike with a poor setup), gas, and the added benefits of having Brian and his crew there. I spent a couple bucks more to use his warmers and felt like Rossi when every session started and ended with a crew member taking the bike off/on the stands and warmers and holding it there for me to hop on/off! They do all the maintenance, all you have to worry about is riding the thing.

I road one at Infineon and had no trouble at all making dozens of liter bikers cry as a "girls bike" passed them. :ride They are great machines, with a few trick, track mods done as well (stainless lines, jet kit, race body work etc...).

Oh, you also get water snacks and lunch!

I believe you are responsible for damage, however given the number of connections Brian has with Kawi I know he gets spare parts for a very fair price so it'd be quite inexpensive. I can't imagine causing much more than a couple hundred dollars worth of damage, unless you high side it (hard to do with <30hp). I don't think you'll find anybody out there with a 600/1000cc bike rental for the track that won't charge you for damage, and those things are a good deal more expensive to crash.
 
i might look into this. ive been wanting to get back out on the track but since my 00' ninja 250 is so old and tired (not to mention my primary means of transportation) this might be a good option for me. any links or leads to reservations and dates?

As Jordan said.. crashing his bike is cheaper than crashing your own bike :thumbup

I talked to Brian before about it, and usually people still get a partial refund of whatever isn't used from the deposit. He only takes off what is charged to him.

And every crashed bike get sent off to Gerry from GP Frame, so you know that the bike is in pristine mechanical condition regardless of a previous crash from anybody. :thumbup

Actually, if the bike is in good shape, and has reasonable tires on it, it could be a lot of fun. B group fun. Much, much faster than a Ninja 250. The motor in a Ninja 250 was designed in the 80's. I would love to rock a well-preserved 86 FZ600 at a trackday. Imagine how pissed the slower riders on their new bikes would be.

As to dates, you'll have to check with Brian to see what events he is at. I believe he goes to most events for certain providers and will go to other events if he has enough interest.

It's been sitting for a year, needs the tank & carbs cleaned and should fire right up. Brand new tires, and track ready.

No, it's not an o6' R6 but it's plenty fast and would be great for you to get you track legs back. Plus no security deposit, you break it you fix or buy it.
 
Just chatted with Mr. Dave Moss yesterday............

The 06' GSXR 750 (maybe 600, I forget), that he built for a webcast "how to build a track-bike off of ebay"....He is renting out for something like $250 a day....That thing is.........well.........a little faster than a 250........Not sure on the crash details tho.........

But shit......call him and ask.......He said he'd wished he'd started renting it out a year ago.............

One thing is for sure.....the suspension should be bitchin.....hahaahahah
 
I believe Motogio in San Jose rents track bikes. I have no idea about the terms, cost, etc.

Ya, I'm not sure about dropping money on a ninja rental when I can use the fzr for free. :teeth This is true though, I will probably piss some people off. Going from the 108hp track prepped r6 with ohlins, dot races, and suspension by dave moss is going to be weird but the redeeming factor is that the fzr will have slicks and suspension setup for me by Dave. :thumbup
I'm just trying to scrape the money together to do it. ahhh, shoulda never sold my bike.

Oh, i'm sure the suspension is baller. He does it good. I know if I do take the fzr the suspension will be custom setup for me with slicks.
But i'll have to ask him about this bike.

I can also vouch for renting a 250 from Brian (Feel Like a Pro). As others have said, the bikes are a total hoot to run around the track, and the instruction/service/care that you get from Brian is always top-notch. Just this Monday, someone was running one of Brian's 250s in the A group, so I'm thinking the bikes are plenty fast.
 
250$ for a day on a Ninja 250 is not steep. You can rent it for half a day. The biggest advantage on a 250 is it will teach a person how deep you can get into a corner. (Just observe Brian and Brandon riding). Brian will take 2-3 guys on 600's or litres inside/outside anytime ....

I rented the 250 for half a day and got a very good perception of corners. applied it back to my 600 and got ~ 2sec time gain.

Whats Ascander, its Fernando from Tuesday (the other guy on the 250).

I agree with ascii, Brians 250s are a whole lot of fun to run on the track and he provided great service and support. I highly recommend them if you're looking to rent a bike.
