Halp me!! The Quest For Kebab

Go to Germany, but I just might be partial.

:laughing

I have Scorpio to thank for turning me on to this yummy action just before I went to Germany. After I discovered it, that's all I ate the whole time I was there.

This is the best place to get one in Munich

Oh, shit. I'm in Tempe, AZ right now, and I just did a google search. There's a Turkish place a couple blocks away that supposedly serves good doner kebabs. :thumbup

Will report later.

I ate so many Doners in Germany my 3 months there... Besides being awesome and cheap, there were tons open all night, perfect for leaving the bar at 3am

not to mention the 35kilos of fat for about every 100 kilos of meat :) yummy

Yes, that. My Turkish is out of practice. :cry

I am teh fail.

But, I don't know if this works... how good is your Turkish?

"Ne mutlu Turk yemek yerim diyene" instead of "Ne mutlu Turkum diyene."

Dunno if it has the same ring to it but the sentiment is true. :teeth

I have no idea how good my Turkish is but that's all I spoke for the first 17 years of my life :teeth

"Ne mutlu Turk yemegi yerim diyene" would be a great statement if you don't mind adding an average of 10lbs of bady fat every year :)

:wave

you corrected my Turk-lish... and now it's clear why I gained so much weight while married to a Turk. :laughing

Effin' Turks. :x

(Also, where are you from? I lived in Marmaris and later Adana.)

Found one of the gyro places I ate at in Switzerland. This one is in Thun, check out the castle behind it.

Where is that?

Where is that?

It's like a block away from the Technology Museum.

edit: It's was kinda funny when I was there. The owner could only speak German or Turkish. I could only speak English, so I was kinda stuck. Luckily a German dude who was in the shop helped with the translation. It turned out that this German dude used to be a VP at Specialized Bicycles in Morgan Hill. We sat there afterward and talked about everything he remembered and loved about the Bay Area.

Those small world moments are awesome. :)

The hotel manager/owner where I stayed in Goreme last month visited America and studied at SF state. Nice guy, hooked us up on some good deals around town. Even offered to let me take his motorcycle out for a ride, never took him up on that though (it looked like it was about to fall apart any second ;P)

one of my bros has a restaurant in sunnyvale that makes legit kebab. It's huge cause they do a lot of banquets there. Agape grill check it out

Whats his name?

The doner ride already happened. Sitting at a doner place in Capitola with half a dozen BARFers.

Oh yea. Forgot to post about that place. It was the bomb. Best so far in the South Bay.

Budgie and me weren't there so now we're gonna have to have our own, you big idea stealer. :x

So for tonight's SJ Ride & Meet we headed down to Capitola. Original plan was to eat at Pizza My Heart. Scrapped that plan when we saw a line of about 2 dozen out the door.

Walked a couple of doors down and was surprised to see this place...

Must be new, but I haven't been to Capitola in probably a year so I didn't know this place existed. The place was staffed by a lone Turkish guy (95% sure he's Turkish anyway). Half the tables were occupied, which by Capitola standards doesn't bode well for it's future. Planning on hitting this place regularly and do my part to keep them open. :laughing

A sampling of the menu. Yea yea it's blurry, what do you want, it's my iPhone's fault. It's the usual sampling of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean affair.

The #1 Gyros Wrap. It was pretty good, I'll rate it just slightly under the Yiassoo version. Pretty good flavor but Yiassoo wins with the copious amount of meat and feta.

Taking the other restaurants into account, I'll rate it as #3. But I would make a special trip to this place because of the location (right on the beach) and there's some decent roads heading to the area. My preference so far has been...

#1 Agape Grill
#2 Yiassoo!
#3 Mr. Kebab & Falafel
#4 Gyros Gyros
#5 Gyro House

This was Agape Grill's version (half was already in my stomach...) . Best so far in the Bay Area. We ate there a couple of months ago and I posted it on my Facebook but forgot about this thread.
