+1

I worked at a large motorcycle accessory retailer and got out as soon as I could. There's not a lot of money to be made in that industry, in my experience.

Writing for a moto- mag is a fun part-time gig that landed me a Press Junket at Laguna Seca, testing KTM's 2010 street bikes. Submitted my story to the editor and took it from there.

My blog pulls in $10K/year. Set up a blog, Google Adsense account and just write. If I wrote something every day, I could make a lot more.

On that note, clicking the "Gear" tab on your page brings up some error.

I would love to somehow integrate psychology and motorcycling, sort of along the lines of "the zen of motorcycling" or something where I can get paid to help people who have a fear aversion to riding or anything like that ( I wish) lol

I wouldn't call it my career as it's just part time, but I work very regularly as an MSF RiderCoach.

When I still lived in Oregon, I took the Team Oregon course and one of the instructors recommended me to become an instructor. I did, and when I moved to California I became an MSF-certified coach.

There can be some long hours sometimes, but it's a lot of fun more than anything.

Along those lines, are there any actual mfg operations in the Bay Area? A lot of the US HQs are down in the LA area; I know Ducati NA is in Cupertino, and there are a few start-ups like Mission Motors and Zero... any other mfg or aftermarket operations around here?

CRG levers is local to the bay. I think Pazzo levers are in Sac. There's a sprocket company in Sacramento as well (Sprocket Specialists?). Motion Pro is nearby. That's all I know.

Terrible idea.

Some giant corporate boss will always push you towards more profits and screwing over the consumer. If you're a decent person, you won't (want to) survive in the moto business.

Don't waste your time... and don't combine things you love with a career. Sometimes this works, but most of the time it ends up destroying your love for that particular thing. I worked in a moto shop for about a year, and loved all of the people I worked with. Absolutely hated the corporately mandated orders, however. Bent the rules and made my customers happy whenever possible. They appreciated that, and returned for more business. Novel concept.

I started 16 years ago

I attended MMI at 19, started working a year later. Its been fun but the way of the dealers these days is really shady thats why I'm going rouge if anyone needs work done I'm your guy. Factory certified for Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Polaris

It really is a shame how the dealers treat customers now I remember when it was a community, we all love to ride and talk bikes. Now its all about the money

Yeah, that is the whole Amazon squabble about taxing referrals from affiliates. Hopefully they work it out soon.

I love my job!

Well, Jim at Ace Motorsports is married to a lady who works at Ducati North America. Apparently, before she met him, she wasn't into motorcycles at all.
