ContourROAM for $89 - Amazon.com

Where's a good place to get a second helmet mount and maybe a handlebar mount? And don't say Amazon cuz I don't want to pay $20 shipping for a $20 product.

CalMoto in Mt. View sells the Contour cameras and accessories. If your close you can swing by there and they usually have that stuff on their shelves. I don't know too many actual stores that carry the Contour stuff.

White thing in microphone hole?

Mine just arrived yesterday. Thanks OP! :thumbup

It looks like there is something white stuck inside the mic hole, anyone else's have that?

Very pleased with the camera so far!

Yeah mine is like that too. Looks like its supposed to be that way.

How's the wind-noise at speed? I was thinking of adding a plastic cover over the mic with a snorkel out to the side so air doesn't hit it directly if noise was an issue.

Just thumbed thru 4 pages of search results, didn't see Amazon listed as seller on any. I guess the deal's done.

I think the little white thing might be a mic shroud. You know, like the big foam one you see on handhelds?

Mic noise is horrendous. Need to baffle the wind noise somehow.

I've taped over the mic hole. I've also taped a piece of cotton ball over it. Wind noise remains prevalent.

I bought the waterproof case for it, and it effectively cuts the wind noise down to half, but still there. Apart from opening up your unit to work on the mic directly, the only other way I could think of as an effective wind-noise deterrent is to mount the unti IN/ON the bike in a location that obstructs the whole unit except the lens. I think this is what scotinexcile did with his setup.

not a huge fan of contour after the memory card popping out after a crash.. :(

Yeah, I was hoping the noise wasn't a problem, but it's a physics issue. When you've got moving air moving at a mic, it's going to vibrate the membrane and cause hiss. I'm going to try and put a plastic-cap over the mic hole. On the side of the cap, I'm going to have a 5-6mm tube that'll wrap around the side and aim towards the back. Then there won't be any wind hitting the mic, but the exhaust sounds won't be impeded; maybe even improved! :)

I'd still go Amazon because I have Prime and shipping cost is mostly irrelevant. eBay may have some spare parts for sale.

I believe you're correct about the mic shroud. Try what the OP did and keep toggling back and forth between the pages. Maybe it'll mysteriously pop up. I checked again last night and couldn't find the "Amazon" seller, but OP did at about the same time so who knows.

How did that happen? Did the backdoor break off?

Have you already toned down the mic sensitivity?

The wind noise on the ContourRoam is much, much less than on my ContourHD. I can actually hear the bike @ 70+mph whereas with the ContourHD, all you would hear is wind noise once you hit 25mph. I'm very happy with the performance so far except for the lack of 60fps.

The white on the mic is part of the waterproofing on the camera.

Yep, it's at the lowest setting. It lowers total volume of everything; both unwanted and wanted sounds. If I auto-level the volume in Premiere or Vegas, it raises both wind-hiss and desired audio evenly. I guess I could just leave it at barely audible and super-impose my own exhaust sounds and music-tracks.

Here's an I4-engine sounding like a... V-twin!!!
Next up, an I4-engine imitating a V-8!!!
Then an I4-engine that sounds suspiciously like a Ferrari F1 engine!!! :)

I didn't see anyone post this but I may have just missed it: the deal seems to be gone now.
