Weight loss -- loose 20 lbs in 2 week, your advice?

I don't have time to read 14 pages of this thread, so hopefully this info is still relevant and hasn't already been repeated.

That much weight in that much time is pretty inadvisable, period.
If you DO meet those weight loss goals, you are likely to meet them through water loss, some fat loss, and tons of muscle loss. Then, due to lost muscle, you will have lowered your metabolic capacity, and the weight will pile right back up and be harder to lose the second time.
You need to keep the muscle if you're going to have long lasting, (comparatively) low maintenance changes in your body composition.
Generally, you can diet at about a 500 calorie deficit per day without screwing yourself, and lose about a pound per week. You can increase this with exercise to two pounds per week.

If you want to turbocharge it, you can take fat loss supplements (like Cellocur Super HD or USPLabs Oxyelite Pro). They work well for some people, but not for everyone, and your diet and exercise is really still the key. Plus, they aren't exactly a health food item, if ya know what I mean.

You can also do a day or two per week of a 1000 calorie deficit without bringing too much (but still some) destruction to your musculature.

So twenty pounds? You're looking at ten weeks if your diet is spot on and you get some intense, legit exercise 3 or 4 times per week (which breaks down to every other day).

That's the reality of your situation.

you have been awarded the cup.

My teacher, who is 62 years old and built like YODA... recommends that we eat to live. Not the other way around.

Bench press? You mean that stupid lift that has no practical value?

Tell that to 99.9% of high schoolers and the cut off wearing no sweating listing up lame Ohh at the gym.

I wish what I know now I knew 5-10 years ago. I laugh at the big chested dudes with small legs or even big legs knowing they cannot run the length of the parking kit without loosing their breath.

Sad thing is girls dig that shit.

Work out with me for two weeks; I bet you'll loose more than 20LBS.

My bigger concern is you are only able to bench 230lbs....whats with the girl weight?

Given the source, when I fist read the 230lbs reference I laughed.

If I had to guess, I would guess it's one of those "presses" I see at the gym where guys stack the bar with weight, lift it and then do "presses" that have about an 8" range of motion.

The bench press buffoonery I see at the gym is alarming. Guys just want to say they can press a certain weight, when in reality they're not even close. 230? I've got $10 that says he can't press 185 5 times with a full range of motion.

I always wondered why the buffest doodes at the weights never did their warmup cardio prior to lifting.

Is 185lbs hard for you to lift? If so, then you are either a girl or need more gyn time.

I'll admit that I rounded up on 230lb, it is actually 225lb. 185lb is really nothing for anyone who goes to the gym regularly. Bench press is just part of my overall gym workout (which I've stopped last week). I'll pick it back up next year.

I think I've found the perfect workout rotation:

6 months of intensive swimming 3 days /week; then 6 months of weight training. It seems better than mixing them; at least based on my training log. If you mix them, you'll probably stop the arobics after a while because weights are just much quicker and easier.

Is the swimming a continuous hard push? If so, it'll actually hinder weight loss. Continuous work above 75% max HR on a regular basis causes cortisol production. Better to alternate easy work (50-70% max HR) with short, all out sprints. 300-500 yards nice and easy followed by 100-200 as fast as you can, or better, intervals. Figure out your best 100 time, add 50%, then do a series of five to seven intervals on that time.

withings scale. it's great because it has wifi.

fitbit also has a wireless scale i think.

Fitbit and Withings are the two I had researched, and there is a lot of dissatisfaction among users. Maybe I should look at the positive Amazon reviews as well?

I was hoping someone could recommend something they personally use. :)

i have withings - use it everyday for probably 6-12 months. i love it.

only issue is the withings website is slow. so weight charts are slow to load.
no issues with the scale itself.

read the amazon reviews. i find them usually much more informative.

I do interval-like schedule. Yesterday I warm up with 400 easy front crowl, followed by 400 breaststroke. After the 800 warm up, I break for a few min and stretch. Then do 100 frontcrawl at medium speed, then 200 fast, then 250 or 300 cool down (lost count there). This is followed by a break of a few minutes and more stretching. I then put in 200 butterfly in moderate speed and got tired, so added 200 frontcrawl for cooldown. So, total almost 2k :)

However, I think I'll develop a more repeatable plan to track progress.
