I take my 1962 Vespa Scooter 5,000 meters above sea level - Ride Report!

I'm thinking Royal Enfeld?

Two stroke? Did they do one? Okay, I did a Google search, and it appears they did.

11 hours: Have the nephew and nieces stopped running along side yet?

Jealous, jealous, jealous.

You have a complete jet kit and know how to change them? One set of spare cables? Add a little extra % of oil and tighten everything on the drive line every day, especially the rear axle - so it doesn't loosen and wallow out the engine case.

Vespas define hell on wheels. What a day!! After 11 hours in gruesome heat from Lahore to Islamabad, I can now explain hell a bit better. My arms, neck and half of my face is probably burnt to the 5th degree. I felt like a turtle in a rabbit race, even the few cyclists I encountered were faster than me. I had a few close calls with crashing headfirst, it seems that everything is a near death experience if you're on a 1962 Vespa scooter on the GT Road. The smallest pot holes feel like you've been hit by a car, and your body rattles to your bones.

A bunch of Islamabadies were waiting for me upon my arrival in Islamabad. It feels amazing to be meeting new people, I tell you.. A few were even on two wheels so I got to go for a quick ride with them. I don't think I'll ever tire from being on two wheels.

I'm resting up now and about to head to bed. Tomorrow there is Breakfast at NUST (University).. Looking forward to meeting the Nustians!

sleepy time...

Im going to get in trouble soon.. ill post here for help :)
you cant find parts for this machine here in Pakistan very easily.. just the big cities so i carried all i could..

thanks for the tighten the bolts tip.. im going to check on the shocks nuts tmrw morning first thing..

Moin - glad you took that in the way it was intended :laughing

Remember - two stroke/engine braking:

Engine braking in a premix two-stroke engine can be extremely harmful to the engine, because cylinder and piston lubricant is delivered to each cylinder mixed with fuel. Consequently, during engine braking, the engine starves not only of fuel but also lubricant, causing reciprocating parts to wear rapidly.

this is excellent. truly excellent.

btw, i'm sure someone has done something crazier on a vespa... they seem to attract the crazy kind

thanks for the tip.. i read this somewhere before too.. but now im a bit more careful.. was wondering if i could use hi-octane gas.. which is i think 91 in the US.. or the regular is better.. some local here said vespas dont like hi-octane fuel.. as i dont know jack about these machines i jsut kept quite haha..

I was up by 9 and out the door before 10. This is early compared to my normal wake up hours, but the adrenaline and excitement leaves no room for want of sleep. I made my way towards NUST university and my jaw dropped when i stepped onto campus. As soon as I entered I felt like I was transported somewhere else, somewhere not in Pakistan. The campus was well built and very pleasing to the eyes. As I finally made my way to the department i was expected at, I found that a lot of people were already there waiting to welcome me. It's quite an amazing feeling to have so many people excited about the adventures I wanted to share. I had a quick breakfast and was then escorted to the seminar hall packed with quite a few people awaiting a presentation from me of my past journey and the one I'm embarking on now. The Nustians seemed to enjoy the set of pictures and video I had, and also threw a few thought-provoking questions my way towards the end of the presentation. To top off a great morning, the organizers even arranged gifts to be given to me by NUST's Principal.

I finally left NUST at 2, and stopped to get some petrol before exiting Islamabad. I made the mistake of pouring in too engine oil in the fuel talk which caused a lot of issues. I then had to change the spark plug and drain the fuel, then pour in more with no more than 2% of engine oil in the fuel tank.. Damn 2-strokers. It was 4 in the afternoon before i was able to leave Islamabad. The scooter gave me no problems as I left the city for the mountains. The Vespa is quite a head turner. Whenever I go, i am greeted by shocked faces. This yellow thing confused people at a distance, but as it gets closer i find that my machine puts huge smile on their faces. Every car that crossed me, every person that I passed, each and every one of them smiled, waved, or gave me thumbs up. I did not expect this warmth from North Pakistan. I thought everyone would be carrying ak47s and wearing serious faces.. I have never been so happy to be proven wrong.
When I arrived in Noshera, a dinner consisting of 5 naans with chicken Korma awaited me. Ohh, the road sure does give me an appetite. Shower, alarm, bed. I passed out before my head hit the pillow. What a day
