I have been living in CA for the past 6 months, and riding here since my bikes got here a month after that. The most frustrating and dangerous thing I noticed is that the vast majority of drivers here do not use turn signals. I have driven and ridden for 36 years in many states and have never seen such low signal use. I lived in NY most of my life, and while NY drivers have plenty of issues they typically signal.

On the brighter side, the drivers here seem more attentive to riders, but there is always work to do in that regard. But why don't CA drivers use their signals?

When you signal your intent to do something out here, people take it as a challenge.

"You want to change lanes? CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!" and then they gun it to fill the gap.

I think most do. I haven't noticed an issue.

CA drivers are actually generally pretty good. I make two trips a year to the East coast and I am reminded every time HOW FUCKING BAD drivers are out there compared to here.

Sadly, much truth here.

Because then you would know where I'm going and frankly that's noneya as in none ya business

cause its too much work. they should put like a lever or something really close to where your hands are to make it easier.

I don't know how you could tell ny drivers signal more, when half the time you're blind because they're driving with their high beams on.

You're going to find that there are a lot of forum members who insist that using signals are a sign of weakness, and that by telling other drivers what you intend do to, you are giving them the information they need to kill you.

I'm guilty of this. But not that I have an issue letting people in. I just swear every time I let someone in they wind up impeding me. next thing I know, I'm stuck behind someone who must be driving mrs. daisy.

Im guilty to a point when theres no one one the road i dont signal and when there is i do signal but you cant use signals when stopped in traffic because who sees you signal will go for the same space your going for.

You must have lived upstate NY. In NYC nobody signals lane changes, especially in heavy traffic. You change lanes by surprise, so other drivers can't block you. Same reason why people don't do it here.

I agree that Cali drivers don't signal more often than NY drivers... bein from the Eas' Coas'
