Weather is spiraling into disaster, agri business is doomed, and that dooms us all.

Wheelie while you still can.

Got my orchard in, and I'm working on the nut trees the next two years. Then all I need is a milk cow, and some goats. Self-sufficiency FTMFW! :laughing

T'was good while it lasted. Shame we didn't straighten out our acts and start using electric bikes sooner.

Where do live? I need to know where to head. :laughing

There is no self-sufficiency Stormdragon, when your tree's die, your cows and goats have nothing to eat or drink. And...Even, Hunter-Gathering is history.

Our concept of that being a do-able is crap.. Those were the survivors, a tiny percentage that survived while the roaring majority fell by the wayside.

Interesting book called 1493 I recommend. Basically traces the history of agriculture, economics, and migration, voluntary or otherwise since Columbus.

Every major agricultural "advance" has be accompanied by huge problems. He thinks the next one will be rubber trees. The plantations in South America are all dying of disease. The vector is headed to China, which has the largest rubber tree plantations in the world. (And there is NO mechanism in place in China to stop it) Imagine a world without O rings. (Synthetic rubber is shit for many purposes)

This. We are all in this world together, though in the US we are kind of like survivors in a life boat hitting the remainder of the shipwrecked passengers over the head with oars to prevent the boat being swamped. We're still passengers on a life boat.

NASA said we had around 4 decades left last week, so I'm going with NASA.

I'm fucked either way. I'll be in my late eighties in two decades, probably having trouble remembering which way the bathroom is. :laughing

Is it going to stop raining?

Have you no concept of what happens, when the weather goes nuts?

Then there is periods of too hot, and to cold, and too wet, and too dry, for too long...
and storms, that you can't even believe.

You should believe, when a tornado turns homes into rubble, so why don't you? It didn't happen where you live?
Well, that all changes...When the weather goes nuts.

The way I look at it, My age saves me, with the release of death...
I won't have to suffer with life..:thumbup

What does it mean for the weather to go nuts and how will this going nuts kill agriculture worldwide?

One of these statements is true.

"The United Nations is the worlds most renowned scientific institution and hence global policy should be based on their findings".

"Barf is fucking great".

There are some huge ag problems worldwide. The GMO "miracle" crops are now being found to be susceptible to insects and diseases that have adapted. As agriculture increasingly turns to "monoculture" (meaning that one particular line of seeds, pigs, potatoes, what have you are the only line being propagated) genetic diversity disappears and susceptibility to disease vastly increases. In the US potatoes are now almost all one variety, the "McDonald French Fry", and pigs are almost all identical now, bred to a few lines for certain goals. That way when one disease strikes, it hits all the production. It's why there was an Irish potato famine, when potato disease struck most of the potatoes in Ireland were one variety. All in all, it's not a pretty picture.

That doesn't sound good, I'm just missing the catastrophic part. I have a feeling some folks would be posting about the world coming to an end if Cool-Whip no longer grew naturally on Lou's chin.

Catastrophe doesn't mean it happens in one year. Look at food prices in CA over the last ten years. Given the current water shortage, the following will certainly increase: nuts, citrus, all produce, all grains, beef, chicken, lamb, pork, avocadoes, and anything else that needs water. Project that twenty years. What we are facing, in my opinion, is a slow rolling global catastrophe, being multiplied by many many factors. 1/4 of the people in the world lack daily access to potable water. Burgeoning populations mean more pressure on food and water supplies, more forest cut down (Myanmar used to have some of the largest hardwood forests in the world, almost all gone to grow crops/rubber for Chinese investors and illegal farmers) to produce crops, concomitant reduction in topsoil as the forest does have a function, when it is cut down and hills are planted, the next village downstream gets the topsoil in a few years. There are huge problems worldwide, with lots of media attention to miracles and cures, and none to deep and ongoing problems.

In the amazon basin, forest slash and burn continues. The once largest rain forest is rapidly disappearing. Blights and disease are wiping out species there at an increasing pace. This kind of stuff never makes the news, it's just not sexy enough. Fast fixes, huge dollars spent, politicians caught stealing, that kind of stuff makes the news. Gradual deterioration that takes decades to become apparent does not sell. In the environmental community (yes, everyone :laughing) it's nothing new, and huge amounts of studies have been done on the this. Nobody reads studies though, particularly scientific environmental ones. I'm very bleak on the future. Not because the world is going to fall apart. Because it is just going to get worse, and worse, and worse, gradually.

Foolish ro think we could just dump our waste in the air Abd ocean And nothing will happen.

Capitalisms never ending consumption, like a gre tragedy it's greatest asset, will be its undoing

There simply Arebt the resources to sustain USA levels of consumption, let alone those levels in china, India, etc

Raping the world so we can watch reality tv on 50 screens and eat food that's killing us

I remrmber sitting in Guatemala in peten, watching guys slash and burn a Tract of rainforest, thinking, what am I going to say? Don't feed your family?

BARF typing award to Kev on this one!

Capitalism depends on unbridled growth and unlimited credit expansion. Sadly the end results of those two are self evident. China has the world's largest middle class and will shortly have more cars than America.
