These KFC commercials have been bothering me for sometime now. This linked one the most. Oddly it's not on youtube. 30 seconds and take a watch.

Dinner is not my strong suit? :wtf How else are your children you had going to get fed? I know cooking can be a hassle but is it really that hard?

Are families cooking less and having dinner together less? If cooking less doesnt that mean the quality of food everyone is eating is going south? Also spending a lot more on prepared food?

I was at whole foods last night getting something to eat after I bailed on horrendous date. A mom in front of me was filling up easily 6-8 of those cartons of food from the $8.99lb section. It was around 6:45pm. I just had to think, that's easily going to be $70+ for food for 1 meal for what looked like a family of 4 :wow

Are people cooking less? Not saying only women need to cook BUT it seems that less are these days especially in the sub 35 years old crowd. Why is that?

Is it a media thing? Destroying the family dinner? We sat down for family dinner all through high school and college. Asked to be excused and do the dishes. Dinner was also ready between 5-6pm. Even today on Sundays we do a more chaotic family dinner at my parents (nieces. nephews etc).

I guess it depends on the family. with all the new grocery stores popping up in Fremont at least, I'm guessing people are still cooking a whole lot.

not exactly sure where you're going with this -- families spending not enough or too much on food. families eating together with prepared food vs. the media destroying that togetherness. really....I think you just want tell us more about this horrendous date. so, spill it.

Yes to your last paragraph minus date crap, not worth the time.

Families not spending enough time together DUE to not cooking and rushing dinner which in turn costs far more than cooking at home. Cooking and family dinners is a process not just a means to feed mouths. Conversation, time together, rules (getting up after a clean plate etc).

While it would be foolish to believe that the prevalence of food blogs translates directly to people cooking, there wouldn't be any audience (or any money) in running a food blog. People know how to cook.

That said, I used to work with a guy (who was pretty much devoid of any problem solving skills, but that aside) who was father to a family of two kids, and neither he nor his wife knew anything about cooking. Even the most basic meal, cooking a steak, was an act of scientific wizardry to him, lest he kill his entire family through foodborne illness.

Not every working family has a Monday thru Friday 9-5 job which allows for family meals together. In my line of work I get 2 of the 7 days of the week to actually sit down with my kids and eat and chat.

Those two days I make it a point to cook and have a seat with them. I wanna show them the importance of a family meal. Most important is the meal is at the table and not in front of the TV.

I know several people that have families and they practically go out to eat for dinner every night. Don't ask me how they can afford it.

Personally, eating out is probably the biggest waste of money I can think of it.

I recommend not watching KFC commercials.
Any commercials even.

why should take time out of my busy day to cook ? There's a new Game of Thrones on tonight :banana

I've never understood why the basics of child care, nutrition and cooking are not mandatory subjects in high school.

C'mon man, get with the new American ethos program:
-Fathers are stupid
-Kids are adorable
-Mom just "saved the day" by buying a bucket of over-priced dreck virtually devoid of nutritional value.

I always wanted a single, childless person to asses my shortcomings as a parent and the shortcomings of my family.

:laughing

I never understood why parents couldn't teach their damn kids how to so super basic shit like simple cooking, doing laundry, etc.

Yeah I know, but too many parents either suck at teaching or are too lazy to do it. The rest could teach history, math and English too for that matter.

dub is correct, although he puts it in a naive manner

dub, I can't believe you didn't know that people ain't cooking much in this country. People 'go out' for every single meal sometimes over here.

Even check the KS, any life stories include Dennys at night and waitresses. :D

But, with urbanization and "modern fast-paced life" similar things have been happening at other countries too.. the French are worried that people don't stay home to cook and drink wine but do go to McD and similar instead...

When I worked grocery a mom told me during Thanksgiving that her daughter, recently married, called home and asking where/when the gravy comes out after cooking a turkey :laughing

I cook every night for my wife and boys. Partly because I want them to have a good nutritious meal and partly because I want them to learn that a man can do anything. I don't want my boys to rely on anyone in life.
