Do you guys ever notice the same riders during commute hours?

I ride the same route every day but not on a consistent schedule. I've been getting into work late the past few weeks and then leaving fairly late. Last night I didn't leave until ~5:45. Came up behind some guy on a late model GWing with vanity plates reading "SPLITNO". He was hogging the split line (go figure, huh?) I waited until there was room to pass him on the right and went by. I did go by as close as I could though. Close enough to have done a Road Rash slap to his noggin if I'd wanted to. He jumped on his horn. I let him know he was number one and rode on. If you want to control traffic go earn a badge and start handing out tickets.

Wait - this was a moto rider with plates that said "splitno" and was hogging the split lane?! That's pretty weird.

Did you wave at him with one finger?

See the same bikes fairly often. Used to ride from SF to MtV to SF. Now just Redwood city to MtV. I do remember an adventure bike with a Canadian flag on the box a number of times. I see a 2008ish cbr600 silver going by opposite direction a couple of times per week. At least on the SF MtV route.

I'm on a beat up silver cbr600. Usually split at a medium pace.

Yeah, there's a small degree of doucheyness involved with simply having vanity plates. I've known folks who are able to pull it off. This guy took douchebaggery to 11 though. A moto rider blocking the split lane? With a vanity plate stating that's what he was going to do? One of the major reasons I ride is so that I don't have to sit in traffic with the rest of sheeple. It's bad enough when cagers appear to pinch off the split lane on purpose. But having a fellow moto do it? I admit I had a second or two of "WTF???" when I rolled up on him.

I don't notice any of the same riders on my commute. Some days, I don't see any other bikes at all, even though my commute is an hour long. I imagine I'd see a lot more if I was going in and out if SF.

There's a couple hardcore guys I see year round (a cruiser guy and a couple dual sports) but most seem to be weather/seasonal. There is a guy on a big scooter (650 maybe) who is an absolute beast, I just get out of his way :laughing

I ride from San Jose to Scotts Valley. I see a guy on an R90s and another on a KTM Adventure of some size nearly every day.

What's douchey? The ego thing? For most people the bike itself is an ego stroke, as so many people make them an individual thing with fender eliminator kits or other farkles. We all have to have this dumb ugly plate on. Why instead of just some random serial number like you're just another one off the factory line, you continue the individual expression there as well. Sucks that it costs an extra $60 for the privilege, but oh well.

I commuted from Monterey to Santa Clara for 4 years. First on a CBR1000f, then a 955 Daytona, then an SV650, and used to to see a guy on K1200, either an open face or pudding bowl helmet, old style goggles and a scarf on his face. He would come on at somewhere around HWY 25 out of Hollister and 101, San Martin, right in there somewhere. A few times I would tuck in behind him, and he would splt lanes at 105 mph+, just a bit fast for my ass. And he seemed to do it all the time. I saw him maybe 3 times a week for those years I worked up there, mid to late 90s. I asked about him one time at Road Rider, and they knew who it was. I would do the 72 mile commute in 45 minutes. Never got a ticket.

only really locally, within 3 miles from home as i get on the 101N in San Rafael

splitno is a twat

I change my route a lot because I get annoyed with some of the riders I see regularly as I'm sure they get annoyed with me..

The doucheyness isn't from ego in my book. It stems from the fact that a person pins a label to their identity with personalized plates. Like I said before some people can pull it off. I think some plates are funny and cool. There is a pitfall to it though. And Mr. "Splitno" fell all the way into it.

When I worked early mornings I would always see a Sheriff moto-cop and would usually split behind him. One morning I was feeling my Wheaties and was ripping it up in a clear spot and he passed me and waved glad no ticket on that one.

I would see another guy every morning by El Camino and Castro. He was always popping wheelies. Didn't see him one morning and then one of my friends came in to work after me and said that a guy had popped a wheelie off the light and had eaten it onto the curb. It was the guy I saw almost everyday didn't see him after that.

Also saw a lot of moto-cops on El Camino pulling over people for using cellphones at the stoplight. this went on for a month or so. Got to be a normal sight at that time of day.

I see someone else at around Lake Merced that has an orange Shoei RF1100, which is the exact same helmet that I have. Pretty cool.

I see a few of the same riders, more often in the warm weather.

I see quite a few of the same motos on my 880 commute in the a.m. but not the same in the p.m. return route.

I used to see Cinncinatus (sp?) when I caged on occasion but haven't seen him since his "off". I know he's still on here but IDK if he's back on two-wheeled transportation yet. If not, heal up and hope to see you again soon, brother :twofinger

Usually I see: a sweet Maroon colored Victory; older VFR red (rider wears gray 'stich) and side bags; red monster; harley dude - long pony tail and patches; few tesla model S' and a smattering of other folks who I make sure to acknowledge their courtesy when edging over for me to squeeze through.

I see another bromoto rockin' a really clean CB750 on the way home - he rolled up on me after we both exited and complimented my big bird suit - he got hit a while back as he was splitting wearing all black gear; he now wears lots of hi-viz :thumbup

I wish the folks I saw were BARFers but no real way to tell unless I see a sticker or salute. Unfortunately, the latter is pretty hard to execute safely while navigating the cagers during commute hours.
