Any scooter riders nearby?
A little off topic, but scooter riders are the scourge of the two-wheeled universe. I park my motorcycle at one of the East Bay BART station parking lots. It's a boxer adventure bike with crash bars. I've dumped the bike a few times riding off-road, but the damage sustained in those crashes compares not to the damage inflicted on them by scooter riders in the motorcycle parking spots at the BART stations.
They can seem to observe proper etiquette. They often part on an angle, or nose in so when on their side stand the scooter leans into other bikes on the side stand and the top boxes stick out to prevent other bikes or scooters from getting past them. This is especially pronounced when they decide to park nose in and put the scooter on the center stand, so the scooter is 8 inched from the back rail and the trunk or luggage rack further impedes passage.
And most of the scooters are beat up pieces of shit its clear the cheap mofos just bought it to get to and from the BART station and don't give a shit those motorcycle riders that actually take care of their bikes. One mofo scooter rider left me a note on my motorcycle that he hit it with his scooter. I didn't notice any major damage, but this was the first time I took a close look at my crash bars and noticed how damaged they were from the scooter riders banging into them. I texted the guy back telling him not to worry and to ride safe, and I didn't even get a response. Clearly he only left the note because he noticed someone watching him as he dinged my motorcycle. I should have invited him for a beer, beat the crap out of him, and left him bleeding on the sidewalk.
We should declare one day in October as "Punch a Scooter Rider in the Head Day".
Sorry for my rant, but I feel for the OP's situation. I'm sure there are many bikes a day sustaining similar damage at the hands of reckless scooter riders.
Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

LOL You're awesome.
Suggestion: Get some hard panniers and wrap em around those turn signals akin to a sport touring bike, picture related. That way, when they break your $50 turn signal, they had to destroy $500 worth of luggage to do it.
You're welcome.![]()

I think this may be the issue.
It's not terribly loud - the exhaust has a baffle in it, but loud nonetheless.
The problem with Palo Alto is that the homeless situation has gotten a lot worse over the past year. Some of them sleep in/around that garage and there is nothing I can do but have em wake up to the sound of a beautiful Testastretta motor.
The problem is out of hand - you can't walk a block without bumping into one of the homeless people.
You may have just found a way to make the Diavel even more hideous than it already is. I had previously thought this to be impossible.![]()
Second time this happens though - both times in the same spot, and there is nothing for it to snag on. When I get on my bike my foot isn't close to it.
It's been a very very long time since I posted to the BARF. But I couldn't help but chime in here.
Stop parking in that garage. I walk by your bike every day (very nice, BTW). But if you didn't know, the restroom and alley way 10 steps from your bike is occupied by the local homeless. Nothing against someone who is homeless, but the ones around here are mostly drug addicted and have social issues. I have seen them vandalize shit before. My best advice is to park ON University Ave. right in front of the Black Diamond skate shop. I have never had my bike fucked with there in the 3 years I have been parking there.
Hope this helps.
That's the lot at the end of University on Alma? I parked there on and off for 2 years (2010-2012) and had zero problems. I parked my cage there one evening recently and was startled by some loud and obnoxious homeless people hanging out at the bottom of one of the stairwells. Times have changed. I definitely wouldn't park my bike there.
Cry me a river! Pretty clear by your post that you don't ride a Ducati.![]()
Yeah that's the one.
Palo Alto downtown has changed pretty dramatically in the past 2 years.
Only a couple more years before University Ave turns into a slum.

Yeah all those thugs lined up at the apple store and getting ice cream are gonna pop off any second.![]()

What's a turn signal??
I thought that stereotype was just fro BMW drivers.
The only reason anyone would actually buy an overpriced Ducati is to try and look cool, so you have to have your bike immaculate. A hanging signal would get your bike confiscated by the local duc mafia.Don't see the problem...just leave it hanging and be the ONLY Ducati owner with no fucks given

Nobody who rides a Duc would have the balls to ride a sport touring style bike with bags. Ducati is about image.
On a side note, how do you ride that thing? I hated the Diavel ergos. Pegs in a bit front of the seat like a cruiser, low bars like a sport bike. I am a big guy, but I felt folded like a pretzel trying to keep my butt in the seat. I can see how it would work for a short guy, but I felt more folded up on that than on a 675 naked.
