Gun Owners who Wear their Guns at Home?

I hear what you're saying, Pete.

I've got many close family and friends who are anti-gun or at least not pro-gun. I can have civil and intelligent conversations with them on gun related issues. We don't always agree and we usually learn something.

That's not possible with Asthmo. He trolls these threads and never adds or says anything of value. Just bumper sticker responses with no depth or value.

and you carry a pistol everywhere you go why?

because you are scared of other people with guns. you're welcome for your free psychoanalysis. now go get real help for your 'mental and sexual retardation'.

:rofl
You're such a pathetic loser. :rofl

You're just another useless Bay Area liberal. This proves just how wrong you are.

Glad I have a right to own firearms and there isn't jack shit you can do about it.

I was talking to a very nice, and intelligent coworker and he mentioned that he went to the gun range yesterday. So that started the "gun discussion"; what so you shoot, where, blah blah blah. I told him that I am debating about safes and where i should keep them for easy access.

He mentioned that some of his neighbors are "real gun nuts and carry their gun's on their hips while at home". I was shocked.

He lives in a peaceful San Jose neighborhood.

What do you guys think about this? Honestly, i do not want to lock my guns away in a safe (where I cannot access them in an emergency). But, i don't think i would ever carry one on my hip.

I have a concealed carry license I use often. But have never carried inside my house.:rolleyes

Ok. That's your OPINION. In your esteemed and no doubt educated opinion, how do you feel about law enforcement officers carrying guns around? I'm going to ask you one question at a time and see if we can have a civil debate here. So please try and answer one part at a time.

Law enforcement officers pass a psychological test and are trained in to using guns properly. Plus are regularly tested for substance abuse.
I've been living in Phoenix area for over a year now and I see plenty people strapped walking around.
One of the first I saw when I got here was a petite woman who reeked of alcohol at 12pm in the day and had a gun at her hip.
I saw gangsta wannabes with guns hanging half off out of their back pocket come in to my work place.

Call me a useless liberal. Maybe is because I grew up in a society where nobody had handguns, maybe because I saw actual war and what guns do to people as a child or maybe I really am a useless liberal. But I prefer a society where guns are just sporting tools locked in a safe at home.

You grew up in the place where nobody but the government agents had legal guns. But there were plenty of illegal ones.

Old saying:

You're carrying a pistol. Expecting trouble?

No. If I was expecting trouble, I'd be carrying a rifle.

Sorry, but people that carry guns around all the time but face no unusual threat (stalker, etc), are just weird. Do you also carry a fire extinguisher around latched to your other hip? Because that is statistically, probably much more likely to be useful than a firearm. It really has nothing to do with personal safety, and everything to do with some sort of strange combination of paranoia and machismo.

I like shooting guns and have friends that are way into guns, but there's such a size-able minority of weirdos in the gun-owner sub-population.

Very much this.

edit: Unless you live in the East Bay :twofinger

Very true. Some years after the war Germans were asked to register their rifles, keeping one and turning the rest in.

Everybody did indeed register one.:rofl

Nobody turned any excess in.:thumbup

After two world wars last century, Europe is awash with guns. Mostly illegal.:wtf

Cop pull guy over for traffic violation.

"For my safety I'm gonna ask you if you are armed"
"Yep"
Gun reaches to his side and pulls G19. Reaches in his pocket and pulles G26 reaches at his ankle and pulles snub revolver from ankle holster. Reaches under the seat and pulles G17.
"Who are you afraid of, man?"
"Practically nobody"
Whet it comes to guns, I'll listen to smart people like Cooper and Ayob, not to some hoplophobic clown. Not you Corb, you're cool.

Hunting rifles and shotguns where not uncommon. Especially if you had a military backround [and military service was mandatory to all able body adult males until we joined EU]
Handguns not so much. After the revolution, hanguns that shoot rubber bullets became somewhat popular.
Not saying you are wrong but I'd be surprised if you where right in saying that there where a lot of illegal handguns around.

Not you Corb, you're cool.

Oh, cool, thanks :)

I'm hoping that maybe, since I haven't insulted or attacked him, he'll actually engage with me. Doesn't look like it so far, but we'll see.

Asthmo, if you'd prefer to have this conversation over a beer, I'll buy the first round. Serious. Just you and me, no other BARFers have to come. Especially not Roman, there'd be no alcohol left for us if he came :twofinger.

Corb, the psychological "test" (it's not much of one really) is the only real difference officers have compared to the general public who carry with a permit. And I'm trying to keep this discussion relevant to at least California if not the bay area, since that's how it started - people here who have friends in the bay area who carry at home. If we start branching out into Arizona, Texas, Alaska, etc sooner or later people start bringing up Switzerland, Israel, etc and by that point we're not even comparing apples to oranges we're comparing apples to the architectural styles of ancient Rome and shit.

As for regularly tested for substance abuse...hah, sometimes. Rarely. And if they pop hot it's not like their gun gets taken away. Also not really relevant if they're not carrying under the influence. While I don't smoke personally and am not the biggest fan of weed, I know plenty of people who smoke regularly and are perfectly functional and responsible when they're not smoking. But would still pop hot on a piss test in a heartbeat.

Corb, you're also not the only one here who's seen war, who's seen "what guns do to people" as a child, etc. While I can appreciate the effect it has on your opinion, I'd like to think we can agree that these things affect everyone differently.

Anyway, I'm waiting on Asthmo's response if he'll give one.

you asked one question, and i answered it. not sure how that's not engaging with you or avoiding something, but whatever bias/blindness works for you, that's fine.

also, your joke about hoplophobic alcoholics carrying guns is kinda funny too :laughing
