Best entry-level/1st liter (1000cc) bike?

I don't think entry level and 1000cc bikes are synonymous.

With more power comes greater responsibility.
Invest in your skills like many have said.

Why would a ZX10R kill you? I don't know of too many accident situations where a ZX10R would kill you vs. a Versys 1000, z1000 or Ninja 1000 in an identical crash scenario. In fact one could argue that the advanced high performance brakes, suspension & electronic rider aid options on a ZX10R are better and capable of handling more extreme/emergency situations ... most people who talk about what scary death monsters liter sportbikes are have not ridden em. Especially the latest cream of the crop liter bikes are so much more accessible/user friendly to the layman with the power delivery, advanced traction control, ABS, multi-rider modes, intelligent suspension... & the laundry list of other new features that seem to come out every year that I'm probably out of touch with now...

I didn't say that a ZX10R was more likely to kill you, I said it would only kill you, without being of any use. Unless you're taking it to the track, all those other 1000cc bikes I listed are of much higher utility on the street. They might kill you too, but at least you get something out of the deal.

BMW S1000RR

Its got enough electronics keep the bike at your comfort level. Its actually easier to ride in the city than my Monster 796.

How long have you did guys ride for before upgrading to a 1000cc "liter bike" and such? How many years do you recommend to new riders before upgrading?:ride

Ive been riding off and on since I was a kid and I just got my first liter bike this year. With that being said. I took a lot of time off from riding. 2002 - 2013. Rode a monster 796 for 3 years almost everyday then upgraded.

Tough to say how long to wait. Depends on your ability, comfort level, how mch you ride. If you ride everyday vs weekend warrior.

Tuono. Did anyone say Tuono? Tuono.

I am not sure I follow your quote, but that is some of the more bonkers stuff I have read in general in a long time. That bar is high too. :laughing

Please OP, come back and discuss this. You have piqued my interest.

with all this nanny features I'd throw the 15/16 S1KRR. A pretty bling bike with lots of creature comforts.

The ride by wire throttle on the 2015+ S1Ks is really good as well.

I don't mean to dogpile, but the s1000rr is easier and safer to ride on the street than the FZ-09(even after sorting suspension/fueling)

A Honda cb1000r is on the list too. .......

..... Aw man, I'm conflicted on ever owning any vehicle that is European-made... Don't scare me with Italian and German brands! :ride

Do you know where the CB1000R is made?

It is a great bike too ;-)

+1 on the S1kr/r. Smooth monster, incredibly controllable, nearly perfected magic. Endless power, speed, and control.

The usable torque it provides makes it ideal for a street bike kept in the upper gears.

You weren't on Marsh Creek this morning were you? I saw a blue sportbike going towards Vasco when I was heading in.

The title of a great Joe Walsh album, which demonstrates that even statements that are nonsensical can have meaning. :party

I was not. I'm commuting around 8am on Pleasant Hill Rd and HWY 24 to Oakland. :thumbup for looking out

If you were riding your Hawk home yesterday around 5:30 and hoisted one on the P.Hill exit, :thumbup

Ahh :rofl...in traffic for a while I get a little throttle happy when I have an open gap on the exit. Where were you?

I'm hustling on that commute. Shoot me the barf salute next time!
