PSA: Highway 50 is screwed for at least a couple months!

Snow comes to me-'tis convenience at it's finest.

It's about 30 mins to the local "ski slope."

fixed

What's the elevation, vertical drop on that " ski slope " ? :twofinger

If you're planning on going to S Lake Tahoe anytime soon, it's going to be a bad trip.

Add ramp = epic sumo jump!

Probably closed until they get it plowed and do some avalanche control. Happens periodically on 88.

There's a company which is doing charter Palo Alto to Truckee Flights this year:

http://travelskills.com/2016/11/17/small-plane-california-blackbird/

Supposedly only $125/each way. Or maybe 'starting at $125'.

The SLT airport can handle 737s--used to have scheduled service from LA and other places.

Assuming they can keep their runways plowed!

No way can they do 125 each way per person. Realistically that plane can only hold 6 people and all of there stuff. It probably burns close to 70 gallons one way, and jet fuel is national average 8.50 per gallon. So about 600 bucks to go from Palo Alto to truckee. 6 people at 125 is 750 bucks. No frigging way they could survive on 150 dollars per trip.

The aircraft they have pictured is a pilatus pc-12. A aircraft like that is easily 30,000 dollars per month before they make a profit. Maintenance, hangar, pilots wage, insurance, monthly payments for the airplane, all add up to serious money.

Your not getting on that plane for any less than 3-4 thousand dollars (that's the total all passengers included price) and that's with a membership. Without it I wouldnt be suprised at 5k(again, all passengers included) So be prepared for 800 per person..

There is a company starting up that is going to fly out of truckee to anywhere you want in California, but the planes are more of a you and your wife deal..they still fly from truckee to the BA in a hour or less but your not bringing your skis. I'm not positive on thier rates, but there not exactly cheap either. But if you ask, the pilot would probably let you fly the airplane :)

I heard today that they are estimating 6 months to repair the section of road... but they have to wait for the rain to stop and everything to dry out... So.... Id guess it will be fixed by this time next year. Hopefully

If 50 is closed, how is 80 to North Lake Tahoe going to be? Any guesses?
It will be like the Bay area, when one road gets blocked, other roads in the area get hit very hard.

80 is probably going to be a frickin nightmare, especially if it's snowing!

Squaw Valley is saying they'll be open through July and have received 47 feet of snow so far this season :wow.

They have student season passes still on sale with no blackout dates for $450. I'm strongly considering buying one, but that traffic on 80...I still have 2 tickets to China Peak + 2x buy one get one free for squaw...
