What the fuck is wrong with 20-somethings?

"When you are stuck in Yreka with a broken/impounded car, don't call me for a bailout."

-or for when it does happen-

"Wow, that sucks. Guess you're taking the Greyhound the rest of the way."

We did this kind of thing back when cellphones were uncommon. Let him risk it and help him if he has troubles. No biggie. Just a kid out doing kid things.

Somebody's got to do it!! :x OG barf there'd have been somebody that beat me to the punch and two more yahoos right behind him to finish the sentence out. A lot of 2017 barf dudes are a bunch of powder puffs though so we may not see those days again :rip

Wife took a 3 week vacation without you?

Maybe she's telling you something.

Anyway, your son is probably alright. He's working two jobs and is trying to have fun in between. Let him have his adventure. If he gets in a jam, you can let him work out how to solve it. Not your problem.

Threads like this make me appreciate my daughter soo much!

And yes, she is.

Me too! Most of the time I was the bad parent and the X was the good parent.
We both have a good relationship with her.
Now she is an RN, 25 and on her own. So proud of her. And yes she is beautiful.

Put the car in the kid's name, let him figure it out.
Get the wife an Uber.
Go on your own vacation.

I'd have to see for myself how "bald" these bald tires are for myself, but, I've survived many trips in sketchy vehicles in my youth.

Here's the deal...

A major part of growing up, no matter what your age, is about learning how to deal with adversity. " Oh crap! What do i do now!?!" Is a very powerful lesson. Really, only through our own adversity do we truly learn to recognize our own errors of judgment, and learn to make better risk assessment choices.

Let the kid go... And hold him to the coals to an extent if the SHTF... But realize that this also just seems to be a life lesson that has been so far overlooked in his upbringing.

Yea, a kid working two jobs is not some lazy good for nothing, seems just fine to me.

I used to drive a station wagon, back in the sixties, that had the left front upper control arm held in place with a chain. It was kinda sketchy, had bald tires, no registration, no insurance and ran good enough to transport me around for a couple months. Natch I wouldn't let my kid do that, lol.

you are who you hang out with. Hang out with losers in your 20's? end up a loser.
Hang out with driven smart people? you will fight to keep up.
Best thing I ever did was leave all the idiots and rednecks in my hometown, and in my college town for that matter. All they ever did was get women pregnant, and drink and smoke themselves to idiocy.

now I'm a doctor. Fuck yeah.

you have to WANT SOMETHING bad enough that you'd die for it. for me? I wanted to become a doctor. I was told I would never make it many times by many people including teachers. I was told there was no way with someone with the problems I've had would be able to overcome them and even finish college.
 Eat my shorts.

It ain't over until I win!

quick fact: When I was taking my organic chemistry finals and studying for my MCAT I was living in my car. It was a nice car, though.

More then that, there is quite a bit of irony in complaining about how the vehicle is not as safe as it should be in a motorcycle forum.

Driving 1000 miles on bald tires and 7 cylinders are what adventures are made of. This is a learning experience. Let him learn. Just don't short-stop the lesson by helping him.

She's gonna take half yer shit.

My sister and her friend did a 1000 mile trip with a loose ball joint. They didn't understand what a ball joint was or its importance to their safety when we tried to explain that it was a bad idea. They made it there and back

Everyone over 30 has a loose ball joint.
