12 Year Old Greyson Chance Singing Paparazzi.

That's my point. You run through things. And yes, I have worked with studio musicians. I've never seen an instance where some guy just walks in the door, plugs in, hits it on the first try and then walks out.

Thats Because Most musicians who make a living Studio recording Don't plug in :teeth

Jason, I will be the first to promote your amazing ability to play any song just by hearing it, but I have to disagree on this. Professional musicians (concert musicians) are capable of doing it. Frank Zappa actually wrote a ridiculously difficult piece of sheet music to try out drummers called The Black Page. In order to even be considered by Zappa, a drummer had to play the page perfectly the first time. One of the guys who was able to do it was a Berklee student by the name of Vinnie Colaiuta... now considered one of the best drummers in the world.

holy insane. for the record, i'm a drummer. no formal training, can't read sheet music. i play for fun, along with rock and punk songs that i dig, but besides that i suck ass - the black page is a great example of the difference between classically trained, sheet music readers, and the rest of us, i'd never seen it before.

also - to they kid in the OP, Greyson, part of the amazing thing about what he's doing is not that he's doing it, but that he's doing it on stage in front of his peers - fantastic.

Not sure if you know but he's only been playing piano for 3 years and has had NO voice lessons. I'd say he's got a future. He's also written two songs.

He performed the Gaga song on Ellen's show and it was even better than the school version.

As for the debate weather Gaga is a musician or not....just comes down to opinions and personal taste in music. I feel she is the next Madonna and actually has talent, is an artist, and his skill. She was accepted into Julliard......and from what little I know about that they dont take just anybody.

Are you saying the girls in the background are making fun of him?! Looked to me like they were blown away when he started hitting some of the stronger notes. One girl needed to pick up her jaw from the floor.

That's exactly what's going on. Looks like some people don't know how to read teenage-girl expressions!

Oh, and I just love that kid.

One of my acquaintances from my youth, Scott Thunes, actually did that Black Page audition for Zappa and was hired. He played with him for seven years. Said that piece was insane.

hmmm. Not a big fan of multitasking. His piano skills need some polish but he has a solid voice. perhaps he should learn a song composed by an actual musician instead of a hollywood pop artist.:|

Good point, Salieri, but that kid's pretty good... :laughing

This thread turned out pretty good and ended up having nothing to do with the original post. A 12 year old singing in front of friends and doing it well. You don't have to like it, and can knock the kid if you really want to :laughing but the kid rocked it.
