Impressive carnage! I’m surprised to learn about crankcase before filter oil filling, and I’m going to have to think that through for a while, but I was expecting to see the crank snapped at the timing cover. I’ve seen three of those failures and actually, I think we may have seen one of these rod through the Case events at Desmoto, but I don’t believe we got the chance to investigate.
Dealer did the fist couple of oil changes on mine, I’ve done the rest myself. Might have been one of two where I didn’t follow the updated procedure with no obvious negative results.
The biggest risk seems to be the filter rubber seal sticking to the engine and possibly not noticing that when installing the new filter.
Twice the seal stayed stuck and didn’t come off with the filter but I was watching for it. With the filter disappearing into that black hole it could be missed.
