2005 R1 Raven stolen tonight 12/12/2015 at 7pm

Some life lessons are learned the hard way. Never ever let anyone ride your bike without cash in hand no matter how honest they seem.

If you really expect every and each buyer that turn up to see your vehicle to have thousands of dollars in their pockets, you're one tough cookie.

No of course not but they won't be allowed to ride the bike whatsoever.

There are many illegitimate drivers license out there that have real info, just wrong pictures. It's an inside job done by employees and are impossible to tell that they are fakes until you really pull up that info in a computer.

Why you wouldn't have a picture of it before turning it over is beyond me.

If the bike and rider were in a ditch somewhere, the girlfriend would have been back. Both just as guilty.

I wish you the best!

If the bike was fully covered under insurance, I might be more lenient with test rides. It doesn't seem like this was OP's case. He would have been right to refuse test rides without full cash in hands.

I wonder what would have happened in that case if the GF never returned with the extra $200 and the OP was firm on no test rides. How long would it be before he realized that 'something was up' or what the exit strategy would be for that "buyer".

that's what I was thinking, maybe I lucked out from having him pull a weapon on me. Anyway, lesson learned

As soon as the car left, you was hosed. I don't care how "honest" they seem, no one rides my bike, unless I have $$$$$. Trust no one, ever, when it comes to $$$$$$. I've walked away from many a sale because of the BS spewing from a so called buyers mouth, and it's always some weaselly shite about the money.

Ive always allowed people to test ride without or ever asking to hold cash. I'll probably be reevaluating that habit though.

You got a car license number doesn't that help, unless its stolen also.

No, unfortunately they parked somewhere away from my block. Playing it back in my head, it was quite an elaborate scheme and there were many things he did that made me gain his trust:

-He came with his girlfriend and they did not look shady aesthetically
-He visually inspected the bike for a while and had a conversation with his girlfriend on her opinion about it
-He started the bike and negotiated the price instead of offering my full asking
-He was willing to wait for the cash to come back
-He was able to answer all my questions about his work, his bikes, his brother, his locations without a single "ummm" or pause/hesitation
-He did not push to offer me his license or anything to get the test ride
-He didn't even have any gear besides his helmet and gloves, it was freezing out

So what I'm thinking happened is that his girlfriend probably went back to their truck and set up the ramp so that he could ride the bike into the truck or van a few blocks away and drive away undetected from the scene. Kind of like Ryan Gosling in that movie "The Place Beyond the Pines".

Anyway, I will definitely keep this thread updated with any news

hope they catch him, sounds like he has done this many times before and have a nice script they follow.

One time i was selling a car and the buyer asked to test drive it, so i said go for it. He was surprised and said "arent you gona come with me?" i did not have his license or anything and was about to let him drive away.

I think after reading so many stories i will only allow test drive/ride if i have money in hand. but then again, what if they pull a gun or a knife? people are evil

Sorry this happened to you. A lot of bad people out there these days. Craigslist? Am I correct in concluding by your post that you had them come to your home?

Never have strangers come to your home. Don't do transactions at night. And try not to do them alone.

Make sure you post stolen on craigslist ,Also post where you think he was from.

Bummer...I was the guy that bought the speed triple passenger pegs from you. Bummed out this happened to you man...

I have done business on CL for over 10 years now. it was ALOT better before. Now its literally 90% crap.

Never EVER do business at your home. Always meet at a public location, with cameras if possible.

Never ever let test rides without full asking price on hand-CASH

Meet during the day if possible and don't go alone if possible. If you are alone, make sure its a VERY public place.

goodluck with everything....time for a bait bike...

the realistic thing is, theifs are smart and they work on opportunity. The couple is probably reading this thread...

that was pretty sophisticated scam I gotta say. I can't blame you, man, I'd probably do the same. The Karma will get him though.

That's the easiest way to steal a bike. If this guy gets caught, he might do 3 days (at most) in jail and then probation.

Thieves are no longer scared to show their faces. The punishment is too lenient.

I really really hope that you're wrong and this couple aren't BaRfers.

lol.. FYI.. If your here long enough you will notice a ton of piece of shits on here.. :twofinger

All I have to say is WOW... What a scam, to even have a partner work together of thieving a bike. Hey idiots if your reading there are easier ways to steal a bike.
