I am looking at a 2006 Mini Cooper John Cooper Works with 45,000 miles on it. The seller is letting go of it for $12k. Haven't really bought a German-British Cooper before so don't know if this is a good deal or not.

timing chains wear out fast and arnt cheap.

Buddys had 2 go in iirc 70k miles.

If you believe Consumer Reports' surveys of actual owners' experiences you pretty much couldn't choose a more unreliable used car to look at.

For the '06 it was Engine and Tranny that were the very worst reliability areas.

It's obviously not a true British car as the electrical issues were only "average' in their lack of reliability. :laughing

Consumer Reports wants me to register and pay to see their reviews.

Thanks. I will offer $5k :teeth

And Ken, this is just an impulse buy. Buying Subaru is a calculated move.

The timing chain is pretty wild set up. It comes as one complete cassette, you dont even have to remove the timing cover. Its almost like they knew it would fail, and asked for forgiveness by a time
saving repair. The standard non supercharged minis seem ok, but anything other than that, it seems they have issues. Oh, and they are strongly influenced by BMW.. so let that dictate on repair prices

lotta cluck for last years style monkey...

cheap gratification till the need passes...

For that much money, I'd buy an S2k. Better engine, better handling, better car IMO. No back seats though.

Mini = BMW POS. Run away from any European car out of warranty. Stupid idea unless you're rich or enjoy wasting your life doing the work yourself.

I did a cursory search on S2000 and found none with low mileage that were cheaper than $16k :(

Running away done.

BTW. for shits and giggles, I put in this Mini with JCW as trade in with SF Mini and they are giving me a credit for $5500 for it :teeth

True, but riceboys have kept the price inflated beyond what they're worth, IMO

Kinda like Tacomas, but that's another subject.

Since when does any dealer give you retail value for a trade-in anyway?
