2009 Yamaha R6 - should i buy? ;)

buy whatever makes you happy dude. if you like it, buy it. :thumbup

i commute year round on my 09, also done a few 500+ mile trips.

I used to ride a 2007 r6. It was a beautiful bike but didn't really come alive unless I revved it up and how often can you do that on the road?

This. The R6 is, literally, a race-replica with lights and with a light-switch powerband is possibly the worst bike you can choose for street use.

That said I see scads of them on the roads...it's certainly is a big hit with the squid crowd. :thumbup

ok so most people say that R6 sucks, or this particular bike is shady etc..what should i look for then? i want something that looks similar to R6 though! its definitely gotta be a sportbike, i dont like tour or harley obviously. ( nothing against people who like those, but its just not for me )

its for joy ride / commute to work. i am not looking to track it(at least not anytime soon)

Thanks ;D

Why do you want a track focus supersport that is widely regarded as the least street friendly of it's class if you aren't planning on riding it around a track.. a lot?

I would take that 7500 and look on CL. There's better deals I think. I'm not sure if the dealership would go down to 7500 but it's worth a try. Let us know what happens.

The Street Triple folks keep mentioning is the most fun streetbike I've ever been on, and effectively what I've turned my R6 into (minus that sweet inline 3). No wind protection for the commute, but it'll be quicker and more comfortable on Bay Area twisties than the R6. Also, the banana seat means your passenger is right up against you instead of hanging off the back a foot away. It has its benefits...

If you need the wind protection (I commuted 90mi daily for 3 years without wind protection) and crave the sportbike look, the F4i, 650R, R6S, and SV650SF would all be better options. I think the FZ6 is an awesome bike if you're open to a half fairing.

I'm telling you a Daytona 675 if you want a sport bike. Or something a bit more comfortable and closer to your 250's riding position would be a Street Triple. There is more usuable mid-range power in a 675 triple than an 600cc inline-4. I think a liter bike is more streetable than a 600cc sportbike.

Here's mine:

Fucking GORGEOUS!

Here's what a stock R6 08-09 looks like. Note the gray side/accent plastics (with decal on it, but the base plastic part is gray), the placement of the Yamaha logo on the lower fairing, the placement of the R6 logo, the color of the front half of the tank.

Now, someone might have painted some parts white, but why would they move the R6 and Yamaha logos?

What's more likely, someone painted the gray stuff and MOVED the logos around, and kept the stock rear fender and the side markers, OR this bike has been significantly rebuilt?

EDIT: oh, I see black cx's post now. The advertised bike is a '10 I guess. There is a discrepancy between model years sometimes when buying these bikes; something like even though it's a '10 model when built in '09 they have to sell it as an "'09". (contrary to cars.)

Also, the R6 is a great bike, but not for commuting.

Take a good look at the Ninja 636. I loved mine and commuted from the east bay to san jose for work with mine. I'm a big (fat) guy and I could do 600 miles on my 04 636 in one day. The extra CCs the motor has gives the bike a nice boost in the mid range. For what you were looking to pay for the R6 you could snag up 2 older 636's

Dont listen to all of these "experts" telling you not to get an R6. I have an 06 and have put well over 20,000 miles on it. Been to numerous trackdays, the twisties, daily street riding and have ridden it to San Diego three times. No fucking complaints. It still makes me smile everyday and my GF gets so wet on the back of it that she now wants to buy her own moto. Buy the bike that YOU want.

Don't buy a bike based on looks. I think the r6 is the best looking of the bunch, but that shoulnt be the sole reason you buy it. I've spent extensive time on all the japanese I-4s and the r6 is the worst for the street. Id say the gsxr and cbr600rr are the most usable for the street. If you want a 600, get one. If you've never ridden them, do that first if possible and figure out which is best for you.

Just admit you only want it to pose.

Just admit you only want it to pose.

Tain't nuttin wrong with that. You ride you ride and let her ride hers.

OP: You won't get a lot of love online... but you may in realz life...

I think the FZ6 is an awesome bike if you're open to a half fairing.

The FZ6 is a very solid, fun, and underrated streetbike. The fairing does a great job of keeping the wind and rain off of your torso and hands, the valve check intervals are long, the centerstand and lack of lowers make oil changes and chain maintenance easy, and it can take Givi top and side cases for carrying all your sheeot. Great for a weekend away, camping, two-up, you name it. And it's Banjoboy's favorite dirtbike.

how do you even explain "want to pose" i mean yeah i want to ride a cool bike that looks good. i dont want to ride something that i think is ugly looking, simple as that! but i also want it to be comfortable enough to commute 50 mile everyday! so im thinking maybe i should test ride it first.

also i do NOT want an older bike that needs repairs and stuff, i am not a mechanic. The best i can do is change oil but thats a bout it. i want at least 2008+

ive been searching craigslist for a couple of months and just cant find anything that i would like, its either a wrong color, or damaged etc

triple looks like a cool bike though

Let me check the BARF: Should I Buy R6 checklist!

Am I a chick [ ] (substitution for being Azn accepted)
Am I Azn [x]
Have I ridden less than 2,000 miles [x]

... I am happy to approve your purchase of a Yamaha R6
Enjoy!
