2010 Yamaha YZF-R1 or Honda CBR1000RR... Which should I buy?

From what I've heard, BMW dealers are usually a bit more lax about test rides.

this..

bmw support their dealership so they help pay for what's used for demo that can save the customer some $$ when purchasing...

also bmw/ducati reps actually ride so know the importnce of demo rides..

japanese manufacturers leave the dealerships out to dry and let them take any loss and don't have a staff that really ride...

besides, the manufacturers hire/fire/relocate factory reps so often, it's not even worth getting to know them by their first name ...

heck, most are just happy to have a job these days even if they have no clue to what they are selling ....

only a few times they have a "demo program" but not as good as the euro manufacturers..

politically, fuck honda/yamaha and get a bmw or ducati..cost about the same and more exotic..

I've only sat briefly on both bikes... but I like the ergo on the CBR1000RR better. And several magazines reviews said it makes the best low/mid-range torque... the only one better than the S1000RR.

For commuting, I would even get the ABS.

So yea, it gets my vote. :)

Honestly don't ever trust what a magazine says about a bike. Who ever wins those shoot-outs usually gave the most doe to that magazine. Why does the bike have to be brand new. I'd go for an an 06-08 GSXR 180hp:ride

The nearest BMW dealer is about 100miles away from SLO, and it's Bakersfield. That may be a factor in his decision.

i've dealt with sportrider/motorcyclist/cycle world and they will hound a company to mooch products for personal use and will want enough for every staff member only to never return the products...

if you say you'll only give them 1 for what they need, they'll make a remark of not giving a proper review cuz they don't have enough to test it...

also, if you buy a bigger advertisement space, they'll favor your product more..

I have a wonderful relationship with Santa Cruz BMW as well as Ducati of Santa Barbara, both dealerships are willing to pick up my bikes here in SLO for service in their respective towns, free of charge, so that's not an issue.

I've just never bought a new Japanese liter bike and that's what I have my heart set on. Trust me, if I wanted an S1000RR I'd already have one.

With that said, I'm leaning heavily toward the R1 for a couple of reasons: it looks better, it sounds better, it's less comfortable (silly, but I like being tucked into a bike), and most of all: the R1 is way more available and thus way more bang-for-buck considering the huge difference in out-the-door prices I've been quoted for both bikes.

"Doe" = "dough"

FWIW the OP already had a late-model GSXR1000...a K6 IIRC.

Beau, good luck with whatever you ultimately decide on. When I was at this point last winter, I was able to test ride both an '08 CBR & an '09 R1. The rebate that Honda was offering at the time swayed my decision towards the Honda.

No regrets here. :thumbup

As a daily driver, if you are comfortable on both, the CBR100RR with ABS... Or the BMW with ABS...

ABS is, IMO, a MUST HAVE item on a daily driver, because you never know when some asshat might pull something in front of you and you NEED to stop as fast as possible on the inconsistent crap pavement in the real world.

Believe me Bro, You aint missin much, Ive bought 2 european bikes and 1 jap bike brand new, The jap bike was cool for like 2 days, After I started to notice the cheapness of build quality on the 09 R1, Im not saying its not a good bike, But look at the overall bang for your buck, If your like me and most of us on here, you wont be satisfied with a bone stock R1. On the other hand a bike like the s1000rr leaves less to be desired, and things like DTC, that the R1 will never have, If money is not a factor, I would go for a s1krr, just my 2 cents. But good luck on what ever you decide, the R1 is a great bike, and alot of fun.

Well... I go by what all of them have written altogether... not just one. And of course, you gotta take it with a grain of salt. :)

I also answered with the Honda because it was one of the two OP is considering. If it was a general suggestion on which liter bike to buy, it's probably easy to guess what I would recommend. :D

Just realized something too... if you're going to use soft side luggages, it's better to get a bike with lower-mounted exhaust, instead of underseat style - less heat on the bags.

Actually my R1 feels more comfortable than the CBR, more leg room.

The msrp for a 2010 cbr w/ abs is $14,399....You might as well drop a extra G and get a s1000rr.
:rolleyes

Okay, let's all say it together, so everyone finally gets it. MSRP on a Jap bike means absofuckinglutely nothing, unless you're interested in knowing what mentally retarded people are paying for their bikes. You can get a 1000RR for wayyyy under those prices. And if you're willing to take a perfect condition used one with less than 2k miles on it, you can get it for less than half that.

Sticker on my 08 1000RR was around $11k, so it would have been about $12,500 out the door. It cost me $9,700 OTD. You can get basically brand new 08s and 09s for $6,500 to $7,500, usually with a few of the typical mods already done.

I love how people still try to convince others to buy the bike they ride. Perhaps it's subconcious, but I'd bet my life savings (all $3000) that if one of you had totalled your bikes yesterday and snagged another new one today....you'd be recommending whatever new bike you got....cause it's soooooo awesome!!!....cause its new and you're excited!! hahaha. I also how they ignore the OP's request and recommend bikes he's not interested in and said so quite loudly....hahaha.

Good choice with the Rwheezy.......like you could have made a bad choice picking from those two bikes...hahaha. "Lets see guys, who should I bang tonight......Jessica Biel or Jessica Alba?" :twofinger

You don't ride "fit and finish", it can matter, but what matters most is the bike makes your cheeks hurt from smiling when you get off the thing.

I have a few friends that have the new R1's and all love them. One just got off a new ZX6R and snagged the new R1, came out to my last trackday and said he had to dial it in better....but the motor tone and pull was intoxicating. He did slap the Ackra full system on it before he came out....sounds sooooooooooo cool.

Enjoy......which color???? Might have to start another thread for that one....hahaha.

Whatever color I buy, we all know what color it will end up as.

Nice metallic mauve? :twofinger

I know you have lots of peeps at lots of dealers and are more than competent at handling your own situation.....but if you need any ear bending to find the right bike/deal let me know:thumbup I just sit at my desk all day anyways.......hahahaha.

I suggested a bike the OP was interested in, The Honda CBR 1000RR.

I ride a ZX-10. (and wouldn't look to a different bike to ride, where I'm riding).

lulz..

the more i have to deal with these latest sprotbiles. the less i want one for myself and rather have a nighthawk 450...:wtf

"people" not "everyone" :teeth

Spending 60 hours a week on a showroom....I see it all the time in person, my radar just went off a bit on this thread, thats all, no big deal......I'd probalby do the same thing...just amusing to me

My point was simply that if your going to pay for a bike and price is not your concern, instead of buying something you have to fixup, buy something thats already done. I personally would recommend the R1, Its a great bike. I was going to buy another one with my insurance payout, but after a test ride on the S1000rr, It didnt have the same appeal it did before. Just my personal experience, Fit and finish does matter, it translates alot into the ride feel, Thats why a honda civic will never feel like a ferrari. But again my recomendation would be the R1, from the two the OP has selected, as I have FIRST HAND experience with the bike. The s1000rr was just a option.

So you'll be picking up the R1 this weekend?:ride
