2011 Spring Rally -- BARF does Quincy!

i think i'd like to do this rally.
if anyone has space in a room (on the floor is okey-dokey with me), i'll make a heckuva roomie for the weekend!

and i have absolutely no idea about routes or day rides or anything, including who the fast guys are, etc. i'm an 'A' group rider on a 'B' group bike, so slot me in somewhere i'll have fun....

I'm new here and would like to take a crack long distance riding, do I need a touring bike for this ride?

OK so I opened my VS box to look at my new panties and some %*#$tard tied knots in them and bunched them all up :wtf

So when is that packet being sent out? I really want to start thinking routes!

Judging by prior rallies, you will see everything from 250 Ninjas to liter sprotbiles to tards to Wings to Viffers to 600 Gixxers to scooters to Hardleys to dualsports to *fill in the blank*. Basically, two wheels and a motor, and the motor is optional. :teeth

However, please note the warning in the OP that you are responsible for the mechanical condition of your steed. Assure that it's in good running order before you leave home the morning of day 1. Also, make sure your tires are up to the distance. We've had more than a couple of participants in prior rallies miss out on part of the riding because their tires wore out during the course of the rally.

3. On or around May 1, 2011, you will receive a Rider’s Packet from me that contains the details of the itinerary, meeting time/location, routes, and more.

So when is that packet being sent out? I really want to start thinking routes!

See above from the OP.

Gwynne, please feel free to think about routes all you'd like. What we're suggesting is that we hold off from any in-depth discussion of routes within the thread until after Tom sends out the itinerary. At that time, if you don't like what we have on offer, feel free to come up with your own.

The most important thing for touring on a bike is for the engine to be properly balanced. As long as you've got that covered, you'll be fine.

"nuggets" of information like this from a veteran such as yourself are greatly appreciated :thumbup

How is slowblood going to balance his 3 cylinder engine ? :dunno

With a special British sync tool, of course. :party

:laughing hook, line, sinker.
Dave's not here man! (dave rode with us to fortuna Kurt)

Im in. PM sent. I talked with the lady at the hotel and she says there could be rain and to expect it. She says her BDay is on the 10th and it rains on her BDay every year. And although she is no Farmers ALamanca, if it rained on her BDay for several straight years no reason to think it wouldnt be prone to rain during the Rally. Also on most of the routes to Quincy there tends to be lots of road debris in the road throughout the season from falling rocks, etc. Be careful. Views of the canyons is spectacular.
