2018 Winter Olympics

Eh, that's what I'm saying. Points assigned to medals means less to me than actually winning and being the best of any given event.

Sure I get it. But it's honestly as relevant as my opinion on "what's a sport". The Olympics decide what matters from a points perspective.

I have a hard time saying Country A with 5 Golds and no other medals is better than country B with 2 golds, 5 silvers and 15 bronzes.

In MotoGP, F1 and every other motorsport its total points that determines the champ and not just wins.

I'm not familiar with any Olympic championship at the end that says [insert country] are the 2018 Champions.

I don't know, but these curlers are sure putting in the work. They've been at it all day, every day for two fucking weeks.

Maybe that's a potential answer to the question many are asking why would you want to do PEDs for curling?

Can't get enough of this short track speed skating.

In some ways I agree with you, HHM. In others I don’t. For poor countries I agree the financial burden on their economy of hosting is too much to bear. Brazil. Greece.

For countries that are wealthy enough to afford hosting? If they want to spend their treasure for it why not? The idea of world games for all nations to partake is worth it in my estimation.

Medal count is a factor of population size, Olympic training budget, genetic luck, and predisposition to certain sports.

The USA and Russia will always be contenders.

is that bad? Norway definitely has a predisposition and genetics, but not population size and (relative) budget as US and Russia. But they're killing it this year.

cool. I'm happy in a superficial way that the USA does well.

do you get any joy seeing the Canadians do well? just curious

I enjoy the spectacle on occasion. I'm the only one with cable so I had 3 Canadians over to watch the woman's hockey. Look I'm a weirdo, and most people don't think like me...it's more normal to happily support your country's athletes than to not really care. If they fail I am not crushed, if I win I'm like "good for them".

I'm rooting for America too of course.
