I’m not over there chopping it up with the Quick Lane kids. I talk to the GT certified foreman and a couple other Senior Master techs. And sure nobody’s got an engineering degree on the wall, but neither do I. Take it all in with a grain of salt I still do. But I’m in their shop 2-3 times a week and there’s almost always an EcoBoost Raptor getting a new engine I’m seeing with my own eyes.

I would think casting is assembly, not a vendor thing. Or is Ford not making their own blocks and heads for EcoBoosts?

No doubt. My daily is a ‘93 Wrangler with all options available at the time that I bought new for $16,200. 200k miles and runs and looks like new. Only thing bad is the 14mpg.
Happened to catch the price of a new one (godawful with four doors..) sitting outside CostCo... a smoooooth $37K. What the actual fuck? Yeah they’ve improved the suspension and the little V6s get better mileage but damn that price.

I know you didn't mean the Quick Lane kids, and neither did I. And yeah, Raptor's engines failing? Especially ones that can be so easily modified with software to overboost? Gee...I wonder why they're failing.

Mistakes can happen in assembly for any manufacturer. I'm sure if we took a tour of any manufacturer's dealerships, we'd find an engine or two apart in the shop. The 3.5TT is absolutely known for being robust and having a long service life. My 2.7TT in the last F-150 I had didn't have any issues in the time I owned the truck and I towed constantly with it. Cylinder head issues with the 2.3TT were known to occur in the Focus RS...but the engines were almost always heavily modified so again, if you fuck with it too much, you can almost expect that to happen. So far, my Ranger has been fine and given my experience with Ford engines both in my commercial and personal vehicles, I'm not concerned whatsoever. They've all stood the test of time and beatings due to heavy use.

Rangers were the same way at first. Wait a few months for the hype to die down and you pay under MSRP...or just buy it through Costco like I did and don't pay the markup to begin with.

I think that the base model will essentially be vaporware, at least for the first year. I think both dealers and people ordering will all go for higher end models. Looking at the base vs. any of the others, I can't think of too many other modern cars where the base version visibly looks so much cheaper than the higher trim models. The combination of steel wheels and the very cheap looking front end/headlight setup on the base model will make then unpopular for dealers to keep on lots especially since this is more of a pleasure vehicle, not a work vehicle.

Other than that, yes, expect dealer mark ups for the first year or so at least.

Looks freakin sick. Jeep and Toyota have real competition now. I actually usually like Chevys but they completely shit the bed with their stupid new Blazer.

I hope plenty of people buy these all optioned up, drop their kids off at school and the mall in them () and sell em in a few years.

All of the "launch" editions will be fully loaded, $55K+ versions for about the first 3-4 months or so, if not longer. I'd bet the bare bones trucks won't be available until a year in.

Thank you Sir!!! I'll take that as a compliment. I'm in love with my 2018 Mustang. I would love to have this next to it in my garage, but my 2004 Nissan Dessert Runner only has 52K miles on it, , so I must keep it.

Yeah the Raptor attracts a different crowd. So the chances that someone is going to mod it are pretty good. I’d be super interested in one for a DD (because I just love buying gas), but I’d rather it come with a V8. Be it the Coyote or that all new one they’ve buried in the Super Duty that nobody chooses because they all get the Power Stroke.

Nothing is bulletproof. And mistakes happen everywhere. Some more than others. You could tour my dealer and there’s a pretty good chance we have a transmission issue (the ZF 9HP is a complete piece of shit) at any given time on the docket that day. But we go months without internal engine failures, sometimes even a year. Last one I’m not even sure about. Guy “was a mechanic for xx years and changed his own oil” and brings it in with a rod knock a day later.

It’s offered in Oxford White. Just like it was in 1993.

This thing looks good in every color. And actually, black is probably the worst one. Typically just about anything can look ok in black even if it’s awful in every other color (Pontiac Aztec perhaps). But in this case, it hides too much of the lines in black. Hard to predict what’s going to be the popular color. I imagine they’ll even have a decent take rate on that super loud Cyber Orange color.

It seems these blocks ( not sure if heads are included) are cast in Brazil, then everything else done in US. Doesnt matter if it's a vendor problem, or ford owns the plant in Brazil or any other variation its FORDs problem. The article I read said the blocks have very thin cross sections for (reasons spun by marketing) that while they are true, also skate the line of minimum strength requirements. Skating such lines blurs the line between a manufacturing defect and an engineering problem as what would be a perfectly acceptable casting flaw in a more robust block can become a systemic failure when the margin for error is reduced.

In summation: bring back the 351w!

I saw some of those Blazers at a dealer recently. I didn't even know that Chevy was brining them back. All I could say was "I've seen Blazers, that's no Blazer".
