2023 New Bikes & Updates

Same weight as my obsolete (far more expensive I'm guessing), F800ST but oddly less power. F800ST has 85hp/63.5lbft.
Suzuki's dual balance shafts might be a factor in that small hp-at-the-brochure difference.

BMW 800cc parallel twins I've ridden felt like they had less power than the specs suggested. Except maybe for the F800R.

IDK, it is 15 years on and the trend has been higher hp/cc in all that time.

BMW did not use balance shafts in their 800 parallel twin.

Feels like 85hp to me on my F800ST; certainly not a "powerhouse" but plenty for road use.

The Suzuki will have an attractive price and it has better tech and an USD fork.

I'm sure it will be a sales success.

F800 engine employs a "dummy" connecting rod located between the "real" con rods, positioned 180 degrees in opposition to the movement of the pistons.

Some bikes deliver more than their spec sheets suggest. The original SV certainly did. Maybe this GSX 8S will work the same magic? BIKE magazine in the UK used to publish dyno charts at three different throttle openings. It was a great way to really understand the real world power delivery of the bike. Much better than just copying numbers from a press release.

I have a 1989 and Honda just fucking NAILED the styling on their new TransAlp. I love how similar but different it looks compared to my trust old TransAlp. They even added a sixth speed! Hahaha.

I need another bike with a 21" front like I need a hole in my head but this definitely does something for me. :sex

Shouldn't the new Vstrom now be called the Pstrom?

Right. And Suzuki used two. Don't you think that would cost a few hp? Also make the engine smoother.

I'd been meaning to try the BMW F900XR, with BMW's 270 degree parallel twin, but after seeing that the upcoming Tracer 9GT+ did away with the Tracer 9's horrible Scuba mask instrument panel, if I buy a bike in that class it would probably be the Yamaha.

Sounds very reasonable to me.

The only reason I replaced my totaled K75S with an F800ST is that I wanted a low weight sport touring machine and they were very thin on the ground in 2008.

Handled a lot of luggage on a trip to the Sierras a few years back.

Doesn't look nearly as clean today.

The retro scheme for Johnny Rea last year has proved quite popular, enough so that Kawi will be producing a limited number ZX-10's replicating it. Probably not coming to the US, though.

It came in, finally...

Well, March they said, and March it is.

All set to ride for the first time from the dealer. I ordered it without the billet levers which are apparently on sales-hold due to some kind of DOT restriction. First ride impressions: feels as nimble as my Daytonas. Now for the break-in...

Ha! Now that you mention it, this bike was in the SJ BMW lot right next to mine. Kinda makes me want to join up...
