2025 Investment Thread

Yeah, that is not my strong suite, at all, even after spanish classes in high school and college I'm terrible at it. Google translate was my saving grace in Costa Rica.

It's decent, and I suspect I'd like it there, but.. is it REALLY that affordable, and.. how's motorcycling over there?
Probably better riding in the alps, albeit seasonal, but any place with a coast is going to be fun. The crux being, coasts are never that cheap until you get to asia, though the country is narrow, so some spots are only two hours across the entire country, some spots are three. The D7 visa minimum income requirement is 870 euro a month, tells you a little about how cheap you can live there.

Talk of moving overseas sometimes glosses over the need to learn a new language.

Not so easy for many.
Moreso inland would it be good to learn, but everything you'd need along the coast, bars, restaurants, hotels, gas station, are all english speaking. All up and down the coast, you would never need to speak Portuguese.

I work for a Spanish company and the idea of moving to Spain has started popping into my head lately.
The motorcycling can’t be too bad since that’s where manufacturers choose to introduce a lot of their new bikes to the press. I’ve watched plenty of 44 Teeth YouTubes of intro rides along the coast of Spain.
Enough Europeans speak English that you wouldn’t be too lost over there.

Yeah fuck it, you only live once, may as well have an adventure! My gramps packed up his wife and four kids and moved to Uganda in the late 60's to work on Lake Victoria, had to flee during the Idi Amin coup. They all reflected on it as the best experience they've ever had.

This has piqued my interest, I tend to prefer mountains over the coast, but who knows. I think the hardest part would be getting past the inertia of my relatively rooted life in SF. Also, I'd have to wait out the cat, not gonna try to make him travel at 19.

That would be a long wait for me, my cat is only 2 or 3. She’s a shelter rescue so vet could only make a guess. But I did do some googling to check my options to find there aren’t many good ones.

No Starbucks in the mountains

Yes, inland is where the price of housing and cost of living and need to learn the language are greatest.

If you have a good 401k, move to Portugal, live at/below the standard deduction, pay 10% penalty, never work again, done.
That option is ending quickly. Property in Portugal has gone through the roof with all the US expats who moved there already and the US$ exchange rate is already down to the point where Euros are no longer cheap.

Northern Spain is still inexpensive and all of Europe is very Moto friendly.

Which option is ending quickly, the standard deduction?

Yeah I'm a little sad about the $1.09 per Euro when it was down to $1.02 a couple months ago...
