2026 ADV n00bs Rally …

If you didn't ride in, did you really go?

that’s what I tell them, ha. :thumbup :toothless

my 76-year-old pal, Henry, from the Capitol City Motorcycle Club, was there as a ride-in … he’s still racing bicycles for recreation. he did cheat, by getting a tent cabin at PSR. :x

got some nice people to join me for Friday’s Father Crowley Point sunrise:

My Saline Warm Springs group posted a photo of an "abandoned KLR" on the pass.

My Saline Warm Springs group posted a photo of an "abandoned KLR" on the pass.

yes, they were a couple youngsters doing the NorCal BDR.

our group sets up radios with a repeater up on Hunter Mountain, and when we came upon the BMW GS and KLR with burnt clutches our group was able to radio Panamint Springs Resort and ask for volunteers to perform an extraction.

we sent a Jeep and big trailer, but when it met the pair (guess the GS got going after the clutch cooled, and the KLR was riding cupcake on one of our bikes) at the Boxcar Cabin, he told the willing jeep driver (Robbie the rancher from NV) that he’d just go get parts and rescue the abandoned KLR himself today or tomorrow, I guess.

pic of the cupcake, being rescued—Mr Matt pic and rescue leader, @rider914:

and pic of recent conditions on the backside of Hunter:

Mr @Terek pic, he repots two pickup trucks stuck there overnight in deep mud …

and an InReach helicopter rescue of a rider over come by heat on the way up to South Pass on Friday:

Mr @Redrocket pic …

we had another guy, not in our group, clearly under heat distress, and not thinking clearly, who declined our group’s offer of assistance. Camp host Lizzard Lee was on the scene in his pickup truck, so when the guy insisted on trying to ride back to the warm springs, we had to let him go, confident that Mr Lee was gonna follow him back and make sure he made it back to the safety of shade.

anyway … some of the stories from this week. I ride alone sometimes in DV—don’t be a soaring fool like Tio Juan. :loser :clown

so to get home on Saturday, I did 12-hour, 500 mile day, ouch. the silver lining to the hot weather was I’d heard Monitor Pass was open, so I got to do Hwy 395 to Hwy 88 to Hwy 26 … got up at 4:30 am and managed to get rolling at 6:30 am, so that was awesome.

here’s a very rough map of the nine-day trip, with eight nights in a tent. double ouch. :laughing

Hwy 26 was unfamiliar to me, but turned out to be an absolutely spectacular California highway:

here’s a link to zoom into the google map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/zhoCcpt5X7JwcA4y9

and an obligatory pic from Hwy 88 on Saturday:
