Going North or South?

Either way, though...You're taking way to much stuff...Put new touring tires on, new sprockets and chain on, and new brake pads on, and fresh oil/oil filter, and air filter on before you go...most likely you won't need to replace those things in-route...if you do (are you not going to pass a dealership in this trip, where you look at your stuff and decide to replace it there?)

cashmere sweaters are expensive, look for merino wool or alpaca, they will keep you just as warm and are easier to find for men.

Also, look at all the labels for your clothing, anything that says "cotton" should be removed and replaced with merino wool, or a synthetic material. (denim=cotton 0h, and don't forget to replace your underwear with a synthetic as it's most likely cotton as well.)

Cotton is a terrible fabric for travelling. When it gets wet, it stays wet. It attracts and holds onto stains and funky smells. It's difficult to wash & dry unless you have access and time to run it through a machine.

Synthetics (and merino wool) can be washed in the sink of your hotel (or campground/river whatever) and will be dry the next morning.

Look for ExOfficio brand as a starting point.

Good points about the merino wool Ray. I often wear a merino wool shirt when I ride--SS if it's hot, LS if it's cold.

Wool & silk shirts both have the property that you can wear them for a long time (up to a few weeks) before they stink. The right rayon shirt can be good for a few days too, and also can dry quickly.

Synthetics are nice for the quick dry. Some stink fast (within minutes), some are resistant to it, but they do dry quickly when you wash them.

go to REI this weekend. 25% off. all your synthetic wicking clothes/ underwear/ backpacking (lightweight and small camping) stuff needs.

Dude, trust me, take the pepper spray. Plus sunscreen and bug spray.

EDIT: Bicycle tire pump instead of air compressor??

Have you packed pepper spray on an RTW trip? Have you needed it on your travels? FWIW I've read at least one report where a guy needed his pistol to keep his bike, while traveling in the US. But I don't carry a pistol when I ride here.

His first destination is Canada, and I understand that taking pepper spray into Canada is illegal, unless it's labeled bear spray. Couldn't tell you the laws in the other countries he's visiting. But he might want to check if he's gonna carry pepper spray.

I have one for you if you want it. I used it exactly twice in two years and didn't like it either time.
ill take it, where are you located? how much do you want $$ ??

i will be going through 2 honda dealerships, but the amount of money i have saved up till now probably wont allow to get too much done to the bike on the go.. but i think ur right, im carrying too much, i have too cut down the list a bit..

very good idea, thanks man. ill check the link.

Just wondering...something hasn't been mentioned, possible elephant in the room, no one will speak of....Have you toured..on that bike..with some mini camp site and weather change cloths before?

If Not...I have to recommend you get loaded for this three month trip, and take a short-ish one....like about 10 days...Southern Utah/Grand canyon/Death valley, would do it.

Find out if you can stand being on your bike, for something like this, and...if it needs a little tweek or two...to make it the bike for this. Before taking off on the biggie.

where exactly are you going and what type of riding? i would think the context of your ride would determine some of the stuff you would need to take. i think if you are primarily staying in populated areas within the US that you wouldn't need half the stuff compared to riding down to/through mexico/central/south america.

if all riding is in the us, i would want to take as little as possible and enjoy the ride rather than dealing with having to tranport a ton of stuff.

Type of riding...exactly. Crossing into Canada was mentioned...but what does that mean?

Why isn't the route getting told? I'll assume Alaska is involved, but that doesn't mean much (at least) unless the roads are known..like paved or is Gravel introduced?

i have done a 3 day tour which of course is nothing compared to a 3 month tour.

this 3 month tour can be a 6 month or a year long tour, i have unlimited time to do it.

if the bike is too uncomfortable i will change seat put dirtbike bars and do some other pods if i have to. seattle, chicago and new york and my three big stops.
i really appreciate the concern and help, make me scared of this tour, i love it.

Also the plan is to go with the flow. im not carrying a gps either, "shit gets tough, figure out and deal with it" is the idea :)

I am in the mission and I don't want any money for it. Just take a random picture of it somewhere cool and send it to me :laughing

I'll send you a PM with more details. :thumbup

I highly recommend you get yourself a gas can then (it may be on the list already but I am too lazy to go check.)

Something like this. http://www.rotopax.com/

Or at the very least keep a couple of these in your luggage.

ohh that gas jar is freackin sexxyyy too bad its $70 before shipping and taxx.. i would rather put that 70 towards better gear.

but ill probably be carrying a 2 gallon gas jar, that cost $10 from any gas station

If all your devices charge via USB I would just wire in usb port on your bike and not lug around a 12v cigarette lighter type adapter. That way you can charge your cameras/phones, etc while riding. I made one for my F2 that was indispensable on my trip to BC since I had to use my Android as a GPS speedometer/odometer (my speedo cable broke right before the trip). Drop me a PM and I'd be happy to make one for you.
