3rd row SUV choices?

Explorer? Or did you mean expedition? I thought the 3rd row seating wasn't available for explorers.

The new car-based Exploders have 3rd row seating.

OP, what about the Kia Sorento? It's new for 2016, looks nice and has a center locking diff if you get the AWD.

. It's absolutely fucking embarrassing sometimes the shit I have to try and explain to my customers. The ZF 9HP automatic in the MDX and Pilot Elite is absolute dogshit.

The Pilot trannies still suck? I thought the Pilot/MDX was notorious for exploding trannies. Anecdotal, but I do know two people who've had such Pilot experiences. WTF?

My parents' '02 MDX needed to have its transmission rebuilt at 120k miles.

Rest of the vehicle has been good, though, even though it's used as a ski beater now.

Rob, thanks for the intel on the '17 MDX. We will wait. There is no car that is screaming to us right now.

The Volvo starts at 50K for the 3rd row version. Too expensive.

The Explorer with V6 ecoboost looks really nice..

I've found the 3rd row in the Explorers I have rented to be fairly useless. Two crammed together seats with no leg room.

Only the Pilot Elite gets the ZF 9-speed from the MDX. All other Pilots get the Honda designed and built 6AT which has been pretty decent. The 2017 Odyssey will introduce Honda's all new 10AT and it will soon follow in all of Honda and Acura's other models.

2001-02 were the black mark years for MDX transmissions. 2003 got an all new 5-speed that was much more reliable. There's been some torque converter issues from 2007-12, but nowhere near as bad as what happened for the 2001-02 MDX.

I saw it already months ago. It's absolutely worth the wait.

If you want an idea of what the new grille is, Google the Acura Precision Concept. That grille is over the top as most concept styling cues are. But the shape and "corporate look" is the same. Just image the opening and "A" badge about half as big as what you see and it's pretty close. Plus the new vertically stacked jewel eye fog lights look pretty slick too.

Hmm, good to know, thanks. I hope the rebuilt transmission holds up for at least another 100k miles (it's got 140k on it now).

I'm not sure what exactly was wrong with it, but I think the torque converter wouldn't lock up or something, so you could rev the shit out of the engine and the car would barely move forward. It was barely driveable, though, and me being the asshole that I am, I just redlined the shit out of it for shits and giggles till my dad got pissed and wouldn't let me drive it anymore. :rofl

Has Honda ever made a solid slushbox? If so I haven't heard about it.

I think the expedtion had the most room with 3rd row up. Big vehicle that thing is. I like the idea of a decked out Sprinter.

Not sure I'd jump into a new model Volvo in year 1, especially given the complexity of the new design (4 cyl, super AND turbo charged) for the T-6 and hybrid for the T-8, but it sure is a great looking design. Scandinavian cool.

(I like the S-90 sedan and V-90 wagon they're bringing out shortly.)

Stan ain't gonna own it for more than 12 months John!

Stan, does it have to have a 3rd row? As in, will you be using all 7 seats? Reason why I ask is because you can get a nice Dodge 1500 Eco Diesel 4x4 that seats 6 people (1 less than what you are asking) and you'll have a bed that you can put a cover on for extra cargo space. Also, like 28mpg and a shitload of torque (V6 3.0L Turbo Diesel) all for around $45k

No go on the truck, as I just bought a 2016 Tacoma

yes, it has to have 3rd row. We LOVE our pilot because it seats 8, and the versatility it affords. Not that we haul 8 around on a daily basis, but it's so nice to have. Plus, the Pilot is not that big exterior wise, and it's 4WD and works very well in the snow. Shoot, I think we should just keep it.
