A* gloves wore out on the exact same day???

Here y'all go, the rips at the thumbs both appeared after doing a good hour ride to the coast.

The bigger one in the middle of the palm appeared on the ride home.

Oh wow! Uh..... Moths? It looks like the leather tore! I expected to see failure at the stitches but that is something I have never seen. I've got nothing but I will say that that is bullshit man! Gloves shouldn't fail like that. Contact A*s. Thay have always been good to me. When the soles on my boots started to separate they replaced the sole for free. They have always had excellent customer service. Were these gloves too tight in any way?

The new takeshi gloves look nice and can never go wrong with dainese

Nope, best gloves I've ever worn. Would rather wear them in the cold then my cold weather stuff if I could bear it. If anything they were a bit too big but compared to the L, they were perfect IMO.

I've done that to multiple pairs of Astar GP Plus gloves and one Held Profi.
The leather in the palm simply rots because of the sweat and heat. Becomes brittle and rips like paper.
I've found that if you apply handcream to your gloves from time to time they tend to last a lot longer.

I seem to notice that the rips begin on the edge of the application patch. Which might mean the base leather's tensile strenght was weakened by the stitching and possibly sweat and the constant push/pull of the leather. Maybe.

Are the patches at the tip of left hand fore and middle fingers DIY repair? I asked Helimot about sewing reinforcement patches in the finger tips but they wouldn't do it.

With Helimot Buffalo gloves, I wore thru the thumb, fore and middle fingers in about 2 years/20k mi, from operating the clutch and the turn signal switch. They repaired the worn fingers but after the third year it made more sense to to buy a new pair than further repairs. Same thing with the second pair - left thumb wore thru first in a couple of years, followed by other fingers, on the left hand. I like very tight roads so lots of shifting. Helmut was puzzled by the heavy wear he saw on my Buffalo Pro gloves. He showed me gloves that were twice as old with less than half the wear; guess it all depends on where/how you ride.

I would be too. These are 16 year old Buffalo 365 (prototype) and still used today.

I sweat big time in warm weather. My gloves/leathers/helmet linings seem to last a lot longer when I wash the sweat

From the held website-

Washing instructions for leather gloves
All unlined gloves are exposed to sweat, especially on the ball of the thumb and the fingertips. This sweat hardens the leather until it breaks. HELD gloves are as sweat-resistant as we can make them, but you can extend their durability with the right care:
Clean your gloves in tepid water by using mild soap or special leather cleanser
Do not use fabric softener or bleach
Wash in clean water aferwards to remove chemical residue
Put the glove on when still wet and clench your fist to mould them back into shape
Wrap the gloves in a dry cloth and squeeze it (no mangling!)
Air-dry the gloves(no heating, direct sunlight or hairdryer)
Put on the dry gloves and knead to make them soft
Treat the gloves with a leather care product
Washing instructions for textile gloves and gloves with membrane
Wash the gloves by hand with mild soap
Do not use fabric softener or bleach
Do not dry-clean
Wash the gloves with clean water afterwards to remove chemical residues
Don’t squeeze or mangle the wet gloves
Air-dry the gloves (no heating, direct sunlight or hairdryer)
TIP:
If only the inner lining of a climate membrane glove needs to be cleaned, you can use water with a little mild detergent on the inside of the glove without having to clean the (leather or textile) outer shell.
Impregnation:
Properly impregnated gloves are dirt- and waterrepellent. A soaked outer shell causes a loss of heat from inside as the water chills or evaporates. Effective impregnation also increases thermal insulation and protects against windchill. The outer shell comes ready-impregnated, however over time this will wear off. So, If the impregnation loses its effect (i.e. if water doesn’t roll off anymore) you should re-treat the gloves as recommended.

16 years and they look that clean/new?! How much/little riding do you do with them?

My first pair - used for about 3 years, from 2010-2012. Note in the left glove, the index/middle/ring/little finger section were replaced after 2 years thus looking cleaner/newer. The left thumb wore thru on both the tan and black sides (I put toothpicks thru to highlight the hole locations), and I decided to get a new pair at that point.

The second pair, close to 2 years old. The left thumb (tan section) wore thru in about 1.5 yr and was replaced. Now the left index and little fingers have holes (where the tooth picks are). They're good gloves. I'm just surprised that some people have much older pairs of the same gloves that are in so much better shape.

No these are the new Hi-5 gloves. If you look at the website he has them up there but they are selling faster than he can make them. I intended to buy Buffalo Pros but I ended up having a 2+ hour conversation with Helmut and buying these for a lot more money. He is one hell of a salesman. :laughing He told me I was only the 5th or 6th person to get these gloves. There are Kevlar/fabric material pads on the left index and middle fingers and left thumb (for the clutch lever and turn signal switch) and right index and middle fingers (for the brake). The outer layer of fabric on the pads is fraying but the kevlar looks good. I imagine these would be the first areas to wear out if it were bare leather. I have been meaning to stop back in to show him my gloves and see what he thinks about how they're wearing.

Been wearing them when I ride to coach, to long trips in almost all weather, trackdays, and racing. Just recently have I replaced them with these.

I can not address what you have experienced on your but with proper care it should last you at least 2 years.

Have helimot replace the palm leather with his uber tough cowhide. That way your gloves will be durable where it counts, and look good where visible.

Do those helimot / held gloves not have any armor?
My spada gloves have loads of finger/back of hand armor. What about Racers? They have good wrist protection, wrist seems like the most vulnerable area in a crash. Though I guess this thread is focusing on durability only.

After my A*s fell apart, I now have had Racers for 2 seasons of racing (AFM) + track days (19 I think last year and 12 this year) and can't say enough about them. Just bought a waterproof set for the winter :)

I will also say that Helimot gloves are fantastic as well. :thumbup

I've only had A*s twice and both times the products weren't all that great. The GP gloves I bought split at 4 different seams in 3 trackdays time and the boots... just meh. They work but not all that happy with them.

I bought some MotoPort glove to try out. Made out of Kevlar. I LOVE the feel of them but the velcro didn't hold up very well. But they are still my go to gloves. Machine washable too.

So just got an email response from A*

All A* products have a 24 month warranty. Send picture with proof of purchase and we'll cover it if it meets our coverage specs.

My first pair of leather were short cuff Joe Rockets I bought when I started riding. Used them since my MSF, and finally wore a hole through one of the palms this summer. That's 8 years of use I got with them.

The SP(x) line of gloves are pretty bottom of the barrel of quality.

I had SP2s some years ago that eventually came apart at the fingers.

My A* GP Pros on the other hand. Tits. Taken more abuse over more years. Still good condition. Really nice gloves.
