Absolute worst Cycle Gear experience ever.

If it was really going to mess up your weekend then slip a $20 in his front pocket any ask nicely if there's anyway he can help this one time

Mechanic? Service manager? At the bilt store?

ahahaahahahahahahahaahahahahahhahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!eleventyone!!1!!!

When are you headlining at the Laugh Shack?

Mechanic... hahahaahaahaahaaaa

Nope, didn't even bring it up with Greg. Didn't care to inform the guy that this thread existed. Interviewed a bystander instead.

A bystander who wasn't privy to the initial phone conversation or possibly the initial in-store greeting that sparked this whole meltdown. There are three sides to every story; the OP's, CG's, and the truth. Enough hearsay from some bystander. It is clear you wont stop shopping at CG, and frankly, either will I.

Man you guys are the worst. CycleGear puts more money into local racing than anybody. They're an official dealer of alpinestars, icon and dainese and you want to rag on their bilt collection and say their day is up. When I see your shop sponsoring my friends, rider schools and AMA riders let me know so I can bash on it.

Just saw this thread and I was about halfway through with the first post before I came to the conclusion that the OP was probably a complete jerk to the staff and likely made an ass of himself. Reading through the rest of the posts, it seems that this is likely the case.

A word of advice: if you talk to someone on the phone who tells you one thing and arrive to hear another thing, the worst thing you can do is fly off the handle like a spoiled little kid throwing a tantrum. If you had calmly and respectfully conveyed your story, and had asked nicely if there was anything they could do to help you out, you would likely have had no issues. I can't think of too many folks who would be likely to bend over backwards to help someone who is acting like a complete douche and causing a scene.

Anyone that knows me understands that I am not bashing CG, just pointing out that them having a service department was laughable. Bilt store helped drive that home.

If you REALLY cared, you would point out that they are the worlds largest Shoei retailer as well.

I've heard the; "I hope you don't want that today" line. I usually laugh, look at my feet a little bit then say, "Yeah I was hoping to get it done while I shop". 9 times out of 10 they grab the wheel and do it right then. But yes you do have to know how to talk mechanic jive.

I know who you are. I've met you a few times at thill. That was more a broad response to all the people rushing to OP's defense, in lieu of facts, because it serves the purpose of indiscriminately bashing CG.

I mean come on people, at what point is it okay for a customer to tell a shop employee to get to work? (That was even verified by OP) Nevermind demanding to speak with the manager, saying "I am an active member of this community" and demanding compensation? Then nearly getting into a fight with another customer. AND THEN get on Barf and bash CycleGear. Come on...

Had a similar situation in Fairfield CG -- needed an emergency tire swap on a sunday. Called them thinking "no way", but the phone person said her guy could do it. Popped the wheel off an was there in a half hour.

Got there, Mechanic said "no way". I was able to fight my tendency to be a dick, and it worked in my favor. Calmly talked to the phone lady, and 90 minutes later I was on my way. I was more or less happy, and I'd go there again with an emergency on sunday.

One final thing is that I'm good at dealing with the difficult customer.

It could be an odd personality. Or an abnormal situation. Or someone is very demanding.

What I won't deal with is someone who is not going to put money in the register. If you are going to waste time and not pay us, then you have to get out.

The OP may not have understood mechanic-speak, but that doesn't mean he should be shit on.

CG may not be that great in customer service. Gotta go to a better shop who makes customers happy.

This is kind of the point I was trying to make. I strongly believe that, had he not acted like a brat, the OP would have left with freshly mounted rubber in a reasonable amount of time.

I'm not a CG fanboi, but I don't really understand some of the bashing that goes on. :dunno

Sounds like quite a few people have heard this same "I hope you don't want that today" line from the same 60 yr old tire changer in that store. Its probably a long running joke and simply some good old fashion ribbing.

However, it could ( and did ) come off as unprofessional and offensive so perhaps a reminder to act professional and to cut out the "joke" crap at least while dealing with people he's only seen the first time is in order.

OP probably could have gotten the tire change done if he took the ribbing with a smile and begged the guy to fit him in OR perhaps "greased" his own way in with a $20 but that doesn't change the fact that the first thing out of the mechanic's mouth was attitude ( assuming OP was telling the truth about that ). Threads like this makes me appreciates my local shop even more.

When did "the customer was always right" go out the window

The customer is most definitely not always right. That said, a nice customer is more likely to be treated well than someone who treats the retail staff like crap.

Yeah, not down with "the customer is always right" crap. People think the service industry is analogous with punching bag. Are you there to buy stuff, or are you there for a dystopian consumerist hell where you're made to feel good about your low self esteem with every purchase of LED turn signals? Take something off the shelf, bring it to the counter, pay full price and get out. You're confusing "retail store" with "therapist" or "hooker."

au contraire. I've accused them on numerous occasions that they butter me up too much. Its things like this that upset the balance: retailers will start sucking customer asses to make up for a one star yelp review, then I come in and bemoan them to act like regular people. Next customer comes in and the circle of chaos begins anew.
