I called Cycle Gear Pacheco on Saturday, 12/20, and spoke to a service rep. I had a few questions about the cost of tire changes and I wanted to put a rear tire on hold. He and I spoke about the cost of changing the tire, it was a little more depending on if I bought the tire from them. I said I already had the front tire, but needed a rear so he put the rear tire on hold for me. I told him I would be coming in the next day, today, 12/21, and would have them both done, one at the cheaper cost, one at the higher cost since I had the tire already. He said just to walk back to the area with my wheels when I came in and everything was good to go.

Then comes today. I spend my morning getting the wheels off of my bike. I drive 23 miles to cycle gear. Since I couldn't carry both the front wheel, rear wheel, and new front tire at once, I brought in the front tire and front wheel first.

I walk towards the back as directed by the guy on the phone and was met with a man who immediately and smugly says "I hope you didn't plan on having those tires done for at least 2 days", as he leans against the shelf he had been leaning against since the moment I walked in, chatting with the guy who was kneeling down restocking the shelf..I was pretty shocked at by his immediate aggressive comment and just kinda said "what?, dumbfounded. I was confused. I have spent my entire morning and had my weekend planned around this. I said I had an arrangement to have them done. He proceeds to explain how busy they are during the holidays and that "Iv'e got 9 tires sitting in the back waiting to get done".

At this point I was infuriated by his attitude, treating me like I was an idiot who can be spoken to as if I had it coming. All the while as he leans against this shelf, when he said how many tires he has waiting to get done I tell him that "maybe he should get to work then", completely fed up.

I decide I don't want the rear tire he put aside. I wanted to talk to the manager. The manager then comes and wants to discuss the issue right in the entry/checkout area. Says she heard the whole thing from the back area and if I had only been nice to the service rep she MIGHT have been able to accommodate me in having my tires changed. Ok, so you're saying you CAN actually do this, as had been agreed, but because I didn't allow myself to be verbally berated by your employee I am out of luck here.

So she gives me her bosses number after telling me she doesn't want to deal with me anymore. But before she can do that she needs to help 2 customers and answer the phone once before she has time to write a phone number she knew off the top of her head on a post-it.

Never going to cycle gear again, customer since 2005 at least.. Don't know if I can go on the ride I had planned tomorrow. Thanks cycle gear Pacheco!

I get great service from my guys at CG. They do know me by name and the last tire they mounted for free while I waited. It is going to be crazy busy this time of year and walk in customers get served one at a time. I think my secret is that I tip my guys for the great service and I go in on off hours. I think they are fantastic.

Thats ridiculous. Plus, unless that guy had no thumbs, 9 tires doesn't take that long. Watch the Dunlop and Pirelli guys at the race weekends. I bet they can knock out 9 in 30 minutes.

Bummer experience. There are a ton of great places to get your tires done. Where are you located?

My cycle gear (Pleasanton) has always been good to me. That experience sounds completely unacceptable, however. Shit like that really pisses me off

Im in the east bay. Anyone know of a place that can mount a tire today? My plan is trying to get it done tomorrow AM.

Before jumping to conclusions, what sort of reservation did you make for the tire change with the sales rep? Did you make it clear that "i'm getting it done tomorrow" meant "I need you to mount new tires on my bike by tomorrow." not "I'm buying the tire tomorrow." or "I'm buying the tires and dropping the wheels off."

Also, calling an employee "ugly" because you felt there was a tone in their voice...

Do yer own, better service plus cold BEER !

1% of the employees at Cycle Gear cause 99% of the problems!!! Good thing Cycle Gear Modesto has all great employees starting with Jen the manager!!!

Good customer service anywhere is a rarity these days!

Where did you get that I called someone ugly?

Woah now, before jumping on the "I hate cyclegear" bandwagon, nobody has ever complained about the pacheco store before. Most people know exactly who's involved in this story and can see it playing out clear as day. I think this was a miscommunication and a subsequent meltdown.

Not really but thanks. I'm just trying to get to the bottom of the misunderstanding. I've gone into that store five times this last year alone, brought my tires to the back counter, had the exact same guy say in the exact same tone "I hope you dont need to have those tires done by today." And it wasn't condescending or make me feel like I was being treated like an idiot. I would either say "Yes i do" or "No i dont" and if I said "yes I do" they'd recommend a cheaper place around the corner.

Sorry, misread that part. If you can answer the other part though I think it would clear up a lot of the confusion.

Well I called with the directive of having my tires changed. Cant one assume that it is implied I would like to have the work done, considering I was bringing in the wheels? It would have saved me a lot of work had the guy possibly informed me that I wasn't going to be leaving with my wheels the same day, considering it's been a 15 minute process since the beginning of my 10 years as a rider.

When I was at the store the guy I spoke to was there, he said "a bunch of people brought in their wheels after I spoke to you".

Still confused as to why there's a que of tires waiting to be done.

you can swap at my house in oakland. CG service sucks. my friend had an SV tiretake 7 days to change... I do not recommend CG for tire changing.

ps I could swap 9 tires in a couple hours...

That would be stellar, but I need to purchase a rear tire now, I walked out of the store without it.

I've got one you can have if you come get it. I'm in Hercules.
